Can you take 2 wireless routers and make one of them into a bridge or repeater to pick up signals from the other router far away?

I have a wireless router and a wireless network adapter. I have the wireless network adapter (CAT5 not USB) connected to the WAN port on my router. I set the network adapter to connect to the other wireless network, then I can get internet rebroadcast through my router. I use Airlink 101 router and D-link wireless network adapter DD-WRT provides firmware for many types of routers that allows you to setup a wifi router as a bridge or a repeater. Repeater mode will work better as you do not have to assign a static IP address. By flashing your router with this firmware, your basically multiplying the value of your router by 5. Routers that work best for this: older models of linksys, usually a wrt54gs or a wrt54gl, and also buffalo routers, but good luck finding buffalo routers. For more info, visit http://www.dd-wrt.com.They have their own wiki section and will provide you with PLENTY of information to get this done.

What equipment do i need for live streaming?

You would need something as basic as a sound card and a USB or firewire port. Then you would need a camera and mic of some format. Could be a simple USB camera with internal mic, a fancy DV camera connected to 1394 and separate mic on your line in port.

Then there is free software (like windows media encoder) for capturing your stream and broadcasting it to wherever.

Its all up to cost. More money spent will produce a higher quality result.

Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router driver keeps trying to open up in with my vlc player its a bi file and i know not what to do.?

You are not supposed to open that file on your desktop. VLC player opens it because it uses the same extension for different file. Anyway, if you want to use the driver (firmware) you need to log in your router and use "Update firmware" field. It will ask you to show destination of the new firmware then just follow instructions.

Do Analog signals require more bandwidth or digital signals?

An analog signal that is digitized without any signal processing will require more bandwidth than the original analog signal. However, television signals are commonly compressed to remove large amounts of data from the digital signal.

As an example, an HD video signal in its raw format in a television studio uses 1483 megabits per second (1.483Gbit). By the time the signal is broadcast to viewers, it has been compressed to as little as 5Mbit per second - less than one percent of the original signal data rate. This is far lower than an equivalent HD analog signal would be.

The dramatic reduction in the data rate relies on complex processing that discards some detail of the image that are not important. It also examines every frame of the image and sends information only on the parts of the image that have changed. If a background is static, then only the moving parts of the foreground are updated. This is one of many techniques used to compress signals. Together, they do a remarkable job of delivering an image that a viewer thinks is as good as the original bt with a fraction of the bandwidth requirement.

I can connect to wifi using other modems but cant connect to my own modem on my laptop any help?

Hmmm. So what you are saying is you can go into a restaurant or free wireless area and connect OK but you can't connect to your home router?

The usual reason you can't connect to a modem/router is the password is not right. It has to be exact.

Another reason is you may have the modem/router set to use only N speed and your computer is only rated at G so it can't connect. Make sure the Modem/Router is set for ALL speeds.

Make sure the Security mode is the same on both devices, WPA2 on the modem/router has to be WPA2 on the computer. Some devices won't connect with TKIP or AES try one then the other.

Sometimes even the channel your on can make a difference if you don't have it the same on both of them. Try putting the Modem/router channel selector on auto if you have it.

Make sure your computer is trying to connect to yournetwork and not your neighbors by mistake.

Why modem required?

A modem is used to connect a computer to the telephone. This was traditionally used a lot as an Internet connection, although currently it is getting more common to use other technologies, like ADSL.

What is the serial key of internet download manager 5.18?

Where Is Your Serial NumberThe serial number would either be on the back of the CD case or within the documentation that came with your software when you purchased it. You will know it is the serial number because it is a mix of numbers and/or letters separated by dashes, usually around 20 characters long.

Install Without Serial Number
You can't install this software without the serial number. Follow the on screen instructions during installation. One of the instructions will come up asking you to enter the serial number - put it into the white boxes - and the installation will continue. You can't use the software without installing it.

What To Do If You've Lost Yours
Contact costumer services at Norton (by mail, email, or phone). They will probably need proof of purchase such as original receipt, bar code on package, or some other form of identification. They will instruct you on what is needed and will then give you a new serial number if necessary.

More Info
Downloading proprietary software is illegal (except for trials). This is called piracy. Using serial numbers that you did not purchase is also illegal, even if you purchased the software and lost your serial number (see above for obtaining a new one in this case). It is also illegal to use key generators (keygens) which provide serial numbers as well as cracks to bypass expired time trials or entering a serial number and no-CD cracks which enable you to use the software without the original purchased CD for the software.

WikiAnswers will not provide serial numbers or links to serial numbers. We will also not provide information or links on where to obtain pirated software, serial numbers, keygens, or cracks. If you are caught doing any of these, you may be blocked from using WikiAnswers as well as reported to the proper officials and/or the company who created the software.

Note: This is a catch-all question. Neither it nor its alternatives should be deleted or removed. It should also remain protected so that illegal information cannot be posted.

What are crawlers and for what purpose are they used?

A crawler is a computer program with the purpose to visit web sites and do something with the information on it.

Many crawlers crawl for search engines to index whatever page they visit. Such crawlers often return several times per day to check for updates.

Another use is to gather information such as mail addresses or something that suits the owner. This kind of crawlers check all the links on the page and visit them after the information collection, and in this way never stopping but keep crawling all over (the public parts of) the Web.
