There is none. Same french-built sealed system transmission used on BMW 3 series of common years. Only way to check it is to remove plug and make sure fluid level is to bottom of lip for plug bolt.

Where is the transmission fill plug on a 1999 Cadillac catera?

it's underneath the car, like Porsche 928s and Lincoln LS models. the more you pay for a car these days, the less they let users service them. go figger... anyway, take it anywhere but a Cadillac dealer to have it done, as they don't squat about cateras (since they're basically German cars). also, go to or better yet 'join' cadillacforums.com and specifically go to the catera/cimarron area for everything catera under the sun. hope this helps some.

Where is the transmission dipstick located on a 1997 Cadillac Catera?

actually he asked for the 1997 catera which has no dip stick it is a sealed system. you cannot check it I have a 1998 Catera and oil filter is on the underside of the motor and can be accesses on the drivers side, under the car. I think the transmission is maintenance free unless you see a leak. If you have a leak you have to pull the pan to refill. The oil filter is locater in a small houseing on the rear lower side of the engine on the drivers side. It is nearlly directlly above the crank position sensor. The filter is held in by a black plastic screw on cover that will be easilly seen when under the car and on the driver's side. It will take......a 32MM wreench or socket to remove the the cover. Do NOT try to use anythin other than the appropriate socket or wrench for yu may destroy the outer part of the cap.

Where do you add transmission fluid for 1997 Cadillac Catera?

. You cannot check it because its a sealed system you must go to a shop. you cannot add any tran fluid because its sealed.

.

Let me add something here. I just changed my transmission in my 1997 Catera. You have to raise the vehicle level. Go under and while the engine is running and up to operating temperature just like any automatic transmission. There is a filler bolt on the passenger side of the transmission. That bolt comes out and you use a pump to pump out the fluid to transmission. You know it is full when it starts to come out the hole. Fluid level suppose to be to the bottom of the thread of the bolt hole.

This is very similar to manual trans-axles not hard to do once your car is up off the ground. I have changed 5 Catera Transmissions in the last 2 years. In different cars.

What all needs to be replaced if the timing belt breaks on a 98 Cadillac catera?

It depends, if it was idling you may get lucky. Most of the time it needs 4 new valves per cylinder and that means the heads have to come off. As much to fix as the car is worth usually.

Your Cadillac Catera will start but wont stay started What is the problem?

I'd start with the crankshaft position sensor cheap fix (50-60) bucks & easy to install if that doesn't work come back and update i hope this helps

How do you remove the rear brake pads on a 1998 Cadillac Catera?

I just got finished replacing both front and rear pads on my wife's '99 Catera for the first time, so I may be able to help you with this. It is not as difficult as you may think. First, there are two pins that run across the top of the caliper from one side to the other, these hold the pads in place. There is a clip that hold both pins firmly in place - you want to remove this clip, but there is a way to do it without breaking it, as I did with the first one. The way to do it, as I discovered, is to use a punch to punch out one of the pins half way over the rotor, then press down on the loosened end of the clip with your screwdriver to loosen the pressure on the pin. Just use a pair of pliers to yank out the loosened pin. Be careful not to damage to lock-ring near the top, so you want to pull out by holding the shaft. By the way, you will punch out the pins from the front to the back, towards the wheel well. By this time the clip should be out, so just punch out the second pin.

With both pins and clip out, the next step is to pull out the pads. I found that the caliper pistons had to be moved back into their housing, I did this with a large, flat screwdriver. Be careful not to scratch the rotor or damage the rubber boot that protects the piston. Push each of them all the way into their housing - there is one piston on each side of the rotor, one for each pad. Now the rest is easy. Remove the old pads (pull out to remove) and replace them with the new ones. Next, put the pressure clip back on the caliper as it was originally, over the rotor, between the pads. Now, thread the pins back through the caliper and the pads. Note that the pins have a fat top and a bit of a pointed end, like a big nail, you want to thread it from the rear (back) of the caliper, inside the wheel well, with the pointed end coming toward you, in the front. Just a few gentle taps with a hammer and a center punch and they lock back into place. Put your wheel on and you're good to go!

Oh, before you drive the car for the first time after replacement, I suggest that you pump the brake pedal a few times to reset the pistons. That's it! Hope this helped.

Where is the oil filter located on a 1998 Cadillac Catera?

I just bought one of these used. It is a 1997. It is in great shape body-wise and seems to drive great. My air bag light is on. I need to get that checked. One of my headlights is also out which we are supposed to have fixed in a couple days. My real concern is the fact that we had it hooked up to a diagnostic reader today and there are some codes showing for the transmission. It probably isn't anything serious or we could tell when shifting but I am so worried about it. I thought I was getting a deal for $3000 but now I am considering trying to sell it or trade it back in because I may be about to encounter too many problems so I have heard from other owners of these same cars. Anyway, when I bought the car I quickly got an oil change and they added 10W30 oil in it. If you have over 100000 miles you may want to go for a high-milage oil though. Mine has 80000 miles on it. How is yours driving? Are you happy with it or sorry you bought it? I am really curious. I hope I did not make a mistake.

Why is your Cadillac Catera leveling light flashing?

Back shocks need to be replaced. They are air shocks.

You may want to check the price before you buy!! Replacing the air shocks on these vehicles can be pricey. Save yourself some time and money and call Strutmasters.com.

The non air conversion kits designed for Cadillas, Lincoln, and others vehicles are a winner in my book! I have purchased one for my own vehicle as well as a kit for my moms old Lincoln. It rides great and best of all there are no more air issues to deal with.
