How do you enter a graph of ymx b on a TI-84?
(This will work for all equations that start with Y=)
Press Y=. You will see a list on the side that looks like
\Y1=
\Y2=
and so on. If you want to graph y = 2x +3 for example, type 2x+3 after \Y1=. It should look like \Y1 = 2x+3. Press graph. If you cannot see the line, press ZOOM and choose option 6, ZStandard. If you graph a line that you still cannot see after you press ZStandard, try pressing ZOOM and choosing option 0, (the last one), ZoomFit.
If you get a DIM MISMATCH error or an INVALID DIM error, press Quit. Then press 2nd STAT PLOT (above Y=) and choose option 4, PlotsOff. Press ENTER until you see "Done". Then try again. If you get a SYNTAX error, then you made a mistake typing in your equation. Choose Goto and fix the error and then try again.
How do you use the zero feature on the TI-84 Plus?
The zero function is used to find x-intercepts.
Graph an equation with an x-intercept. (In this example, x2-5).
Press 2ND CALC (above TRACE), and select option 2, "zero". The calculator will ask "Left Bound?". Move the flashing x-like shape to the left of the x-intercept that you want to find with the arrow keys and press ENTER. Then the calculator will ask "Right Bound?". Move the x-like shape to the right of the x-intercept and press ENTER. The calculator will then ask "Guess?". Move the flashing shape to a point close to the x-intercept and press ENTER. The calculator will give you the coordinates of the x-intercept.
How do you write negative numbers on a calculator?
Enter the number, then press the button marked with +/-
How do you enter scientific notation into a calculator?
First of all, you have to have a scientific calculator, one that supports scientific notation. (As far as I know, all scientific calculators do.) The scientific calculator should have a special key labelled something like EXP. To input (for example) 2.3 million, you would type 2.3 EXP 6 (where EXP is short for "times 10 to the power...").
How do you graph a parabola on a TI-83 calculator?
Go to the y= button at the top left corner, right below the screen. Then, type in "x^2" or type X, then use the X2 button.
Then, press Graph on the top right of the calculator. The y=x2 function is the most basic parabola.
Willim Seward Burroughs was the first to create a working calculator.
What did the calculator say to the other calculator?
The answer is "you can count on me."
But of course, you do not "count" on a calculator: you calculate. You can count on your fingers, or on an abacus, or a handheld tally counter.
What does it mean if a TI-83 plus calculator says invalid dim and won't graph anything?
This most likely means that a stat plot is on, and that a list that the stat plot was using is blank. (If you get a DIM MISMATCH error, it probably means that the lists that the stat plot was using don't have the same number of values.)
If you are trying to graph the stat plot, go back and look at your data in the lists.
If you are not trying to graph a stat plot, then press 2ND STAT PLOT (above Y=) and select Plots Off. Press ENTER until you see "Done". Then try to graph again.
Where is the change sign key on the TI-83 plus calculator?
The sign change key on the TI-83 Plus calculator is located on the bottom row of keys to the left of the ENTER key.
It is a white key with black printing that looks like this: (-)
You must use this key instead of the blue subtraction key when you need to indicate a negative number; otherwise, the calculator will tell you it doesn't understand what you mean ("syntax error").
How are calculators used in chemistry?
Calculators are used in chemistry to perform complicated mathematical operations and to achieve correct mathematical answers to complex problems. They are not used experimentally in the laboratory.
How do you fix a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculator?
If you have a message along the lines of "Error, turn of calculator then turn back on," and can't seem to be able to download the software to update the calculator, this really helps.
1) Download IT Connect.
2) Go to the website below to find the newest version of software for your calculator.
3) DO NOT click download. Instead, right click on the link, and hit SAVE LINK AS. Save the link to your desktop.
4) Open IT Connect. It should come to a screen with seven icons including TI DeviceExplorer as an example.
5) Take the link that you pasted on the desktop and drag it into the empty space in IT Connect.
6) Connect your calculator and turn it on.
7) Take out one of the batteries. Then press the DEL key FIRST, then put the battery in while holding that key down.
8) Click on DOWNLOAD and it should take anywhere from 5-10 minutes for the system to update.
9) When the download is complete, the screen should say something like "Validating, Progress 100%" At this point, DO NOT turn off or unplug the calculator.
10) Wait 5-10 minutes for calculator to reset. When it is reset, the screen RAM CLEARED should come up, and just hit clear to remove it.
11) If these steps do not work, try contacting the Technical Support Desk. Here is their information:

How do you find cube roots on a TI-84 Plus?
For example, to find the cube root of 5x5x5=125. In order to have the calculator show the cube root of 125, you need to enter the numbers in the following format. 125^(1/3) If you enter that in your TI-84 Plus exactly as its written above, it should come up with 5 as the answer. Notice the (1/3) at the end. This is the "cube." If you want to find the root of a number to, say, the 5th power you would use the following format in the example problem below. Example problem: 4x4x4x4x4=1024 Format for calculator: 1024^(1/5) Basically you put the number in front, followed by the carrot symbol ( ^ ) with the fraction (1/5), the 5 being the power of the number (the amount of times you multiplied 4 to get 1024). You have to put it in parenthesis and you have to put it as a fraction with the power as the denominator.
Can you use a scientific calculator to find the mode and the meadian?
Finding the Mode and the Median are fairly easy and do not require the use of a calculator.
Consider this set of numbers as an example:
5, 7, 1, 1, 9, 8, 10, 8, 8
For #3, use this set:
5, 5, 7, 1, 1, 9, 8, 10, 8, 8
1.) Put ALL the numbers in sequential order. This is essential for finding the Median. It also helps depict what the Mode is.
(1, 1, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10)
2.) To find the Mode, choose the number that occurs the most. If there is more than one, then there is no mode, for there is always ONE mode.
In this case, it is 8.
3.) To find the Median quickly, count the number of numbers in your set. Add 1 to the amount of numbers in your set. Divide by 2. Then, count that many numbers into your set. If the previous quotient found has a ".5" in it, then you will have to find the average of the two numbers. (Note: This comes in handy for large number sets)
Example 1: (1, 1, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10) There are 9 numbers.
1/2(9 + 1) = 5 numbers in.
The median is 8.
Example 2: (1, 1, 5, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10)
1/2(10+1) = 5.5
The median is in between 7 and 8.
1/2(7+8) = 7.5
Keep in mind that you don't arbitrarily add .5 to the 5th number.
Example 3:
(10, 10, 40, 40, 40, 81, 82, 82, 95, 100)
1/2(40+81) = 60.5
How do you calculate a perfect number?
There is a formula, which uses Mersenne primes. If you don't know what that is, then you'll find it somewhere on the internet. The formula is this: 2n-1 x (2n-1) This will only work if the bit inside the bracket is a Mersenne prime. =)
How to put in fractions on a scientific calculator?
The standard is a button that says "a b/c" the b/c is in a smaller font. When using it it should look like 3¬5 (meaning 3/5). You can also say 2¬3¬5 (meaning 2 and 3/5). To test try putting in 2¬6, it should simplify it to 1¬3. Unfortunately not all calculators have it.
Note: the actual symbol ¬ represents will be ¬ rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

How do you make 'cot' and 'csc' on a TI-84 graphing calculator?
From math class, some trigonometric identities:
cot x = 1/tan x
csc x = 1/sin x
sec x = 1/cos x
There are no built-in cot or csc formulas, so use the above.
Remember that these give errors when tan x, sin x, or cos x are equal to 0.
