Probably valve tappets/lifters/pushrods that have gummed up from dirty or overheated oil. Check the oil level and the color of the oil - when new it is gold colored, and when old it is black and sludgy.

If the engine is old and has not had oil changes at frequent intervals, there are additives available to correct the problem to some extent, ie, to get rid of the gummy sludge. Ask for advice at a reputable automotive store such as Canadian Tire, Napa or PartSource. Once the problem is corrected, be sure to change the engine oil at appropriate intervals.

Why would the exhaust of a 93 Olds Cierra 3.3 smell of raw fuel and the engine have no power after replacing the MAF sensor?

Could b an O2 sensor OR a Stuck open thermostat or one that's 2 cold-EVEN a clogged muffler or converter-many other things can cause your condition.

You were careful not to get any dirt on the hotwire/resistor in the sensor? I had a dead bug get on mine, and it didn't get burnt off like it was supposed to. This thing is very sensitive, so any debris on the wire will give you problems. You did plug in the IAT sensor, right? There is also a chance that you have the wrong MAF sensor.

Would someone help please there is a hole in a hose that is attached to your gas tank its not leaking any gas out but there is a strong odor of gas fumes Does anyone know what that hose is called?

There are usually no more than 3 hoses coming from the tank: # The fill hose connects the fill neck to the tank # The vapor recovery line. This comes off the highest point of the tank and takes fumes to the charcoal cannister. # The fuel line. This, on a car that doesn't have an in-tank fuel pump, is not under pressure but will continue to siphon fuel from the tank if it leaks. If you are only smelling fumes and not seeing leakage, it is reasonable to guess that it is your vapor return line.

Difference between 87 octane and 91 octane?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I love this question

Octane rating indicates the ability of the fuel to resist ping or Knock inside the combustion chamber. This can be very damaging, especially on older performance cars.

Not to many years ago regular fuel was 91 octane and premium was 98

Pretty neat how they lowered the quality of the fuel and charged us more?

What you need to know:If your car calls for 87 octane regular fuel there is no benefit of running mid grade or premium.

If your car calls for 98 octane or better in the USA there are a few stations that sell it ( I know one in east Las Vegas )or you will have to visit your race fuel sales depot regularly like I do.

What does it mean when black smoke comes out the exhaust and the car starts going about 30 MPH?

sounds like it could be your oxygen sensor. If it was me I'd replace it. If you smell a strong odor of gas, it could be your MAP sensor. You might also have a bad pickup in the distributor. Good luck.
