This is a popular movie gag that someone will say something and a parrot will repeat it. However, it's not guaranteed a parrot will repeat something after you. An African Grey is most likely to do this the first or second time it hears something, as long as it is said with great enthusiasm. Great Enthusiasm, you say? Why would you need great enthusiasm? Well, see here, parrots LOVE attention. They adore it. They live for it. So when you say something with great happiness or enthusiasm a couple of times or so, the parrot will start to think, Hey, whatever this person is saying is of great importance. If I could somehow get that kind of attention... Eventually the parrot may or may not leanr to say it, depending on the bird itself, and it will obliviously get attention for it, as talking is one of the charms of parrots and people love it.
Parrots can also be taught to speak on cue or speak with clear understanding of the word. Not simply mind-less repetition, but knowing that a grape is a grape and that green is green. They know what the word means and can use it properly.
It depends on the species. Most macaws live in the emergent layer in the rainforest, but some species, such as Red-fronted macaws, live in swampy areas within rainforests, while Scarlet macaws tend to favour lowlands. The rainforest is not the only habitat in which they are found. Two other species, Scarlet macaws and Military macaws, are known to live in Mexico. Red-fronted macaws, which live in Bolivia, inhabit semi-arid areas, living in cavities in cliff faces.
Penguins are birds, and birds have beaks. They eat fish, typically, and are more adapted to aquatic/land life as they cannot fly.
What season do humming birds come out?
Hummingbird season depends on where the location is. In North America, hummingbirds can begin to arrive as early as February and end as late as October. In the southern parts of the United States hummingbirds live all year long.
Owls do have a neck, with 14 vertebrae which allows the owls head to turn about 270 degrees. However, because the owls feathers are so thickly covered, it is only when the owl stretches that the neck becomes apparent.
How do you keep algae from growing in a bird bath?
Rinse it every other day or put in a circulating pump. The pump will only reduce, not rid, the bath of algae. More tips from FAQ Farmers: * I rinse my bird bath at least four times a week. * Scrub the bird bath with a stiff bristle brush, change the water, and repeat as necessary. There are also natural cleaners you can also use in between rinses such as enzymatic products to break down waste and even oxygen based cleaners that will oxidize muck in birdbaths to help clean them. Algae comes about due to sunlight and the moisture in the birdbath. It is not possible to permanently remove the algae without harming the birds. Things such as bleach will kill of the algae but will harm and/or discourage birds from using your birdbath. Algae is a natural process that although is not always beautiful to look at isn't going to harm the birds like many chemicals will. It is easier to just accept the algae rinse it off occasionally when it gets bad and know that it is going to form on anything that is exposed to nature and is wet.
Why do parrots eat their poop?
Often, the cause of this problem is lack of space in the cage to select a better spot to poop or it could be perch placement. If the perches are only over water or food, they bird may have few options when it is inside its cage (which should be as little as possible since a healthy, happy companion parrot is out of the cage interacting with its humans as much as possible) Pet parrots will tend to avoid pooping where they sleep and where they eat if they are provided with sufficient space to be able to easily avoid having to do so. In fact, a parrot can be potty trained to go in a specific place or even to go on command. My sun conure, SunDance, was potty trained! She would say "Go homie" and she wanted to be placed on the 'porch' area of her cage so she could hang her tail off and poop on the paper below. My friend trained her conure to only poop in the sink. I used to see around the Cocoa Beach, Florida area a beautiful female Eclectus that was so well potty trained, she was welcomed into restaurants and bars!
If a baby owl loses its feathers will they grow back?
Baby birds with hatchling fuzz will lose the fuzz as pin feathers grow in. Any time a new feather grows in, the old feather in that particular feather folicle has to fall out first.
What is a bird's gullet in which food is stored?
It is called a 'crop' and stores food prior to digestion. Birds that feed their young can regurgitate food from the crop.
Why is your budgie so aggressive?
Budgies use their beaks for many purposes. Not every bite is intentional. Budgies may bite if they are scared or if you are annoying them. They might get jealous or territorial if you take a toy away from them. A budgie might gently use its beak to climb on your hands. They may peck at things that look interesting, like hair or a mole or your fingernail because they are curious. It's a lot like a toddler who puts every object within reach in his mouth. They may try to preen your hair because they like you but accidentally peck your skin instead.
See, some say that it's impossible. Are you planning on becoming one? *half smile* I think that it's pretty possible. One day, maybe they'll take me...
Answa:
I second the notion. Take mua with thou! Dipping my wings in the midnight sky is Is IS my ultimate dream.... To any Mutatious Maniaco Genetic Diffuser Scientists out there, Im not afraid of mutation, and Im here! ;D
You would have to have half avain DNA maybe you would not even grow wings You never know> even If you did it would Dangerously and rapidly decrease your bone marrow which being a human species we need alot of
Same here i would love that but the way that you could is nearly impossible. I read Maximum Ride and i just wished almost every day even till now.To do it you would need alot of luck and hope not to die when your in a test tube :D.But it is possible if we were WAY more advanced.A guess in year is 2043.Give or take a few years.
How do you know if your budgie has broken its legs?
put flour on the bleeding spot!!:)
Flour might work, but many bird books recommend keeping a coagulating agent on hand. Birds can get a "blood feather" which is a malformed feather that doesn't mature. The blood vessel stays open. Blood feathers have to be pulled, then you use a clotting agent if necessary. Google "blood feather" for more complete information.
Do parakeets got to have a different cage for mating?
No, you just need to buy or make a nesting box for them. A nesting box is some sort of covered box with enough space for the birds to move around in, it connects to the cage through a hole near the top, but it has to be big enough that the birds can get in. Also, to be able to check in once and a while without disturbing the occupant too much, make sure that the top can open up so that you can see in.
The one thing that is absolutely necessary though is nesting material (like strips of shredded paper).

After 3-10 days of the bird sitting on the egg, take the egg to a strong light and if it has redish vines in it, then it is fertile. If it's just white then its not.
Do you have to clip a budgie's wings if they just can fly in a enclosed room?
It's not necessary but sometimes if you have a window in your room the bird will see it and believe it can fly though it, which it tries and will smash into it, usually the end to that is a dead bird with a broken neck. So It's a good idea to do so.
Which is better a ferret or a bird?
It's not a matter of one being better than the other. It's based upon individual preference based upon the care and upkeep of a particular pet. Ferrets are a very high maintenance pet and can by very expense to maintain. You need to learn about the care and habits of any pet you are interested in having.
Does a female or male parakeet sing?
As a matter of fact, they do! It all depends on how the female was raised and how much noise/songs/tunes were around her as she grew up. I had bought a boy cockatiel who never sang; just sqeeked a lot. I proceeded to buy a female and at 6 a.m. every morning she'd sing the same tune for about 5 minutes. Pretty soon the male learned the song. I figured that the girl would soon learn a noise or song before the male, so I taught her how to whistle like someone sexy was walking by, the howl of a wolf and the star wars theme song. You can teach them to sing, it just takes time and patience, or maybe you'll get lucky like I did and already have a vocal female.
A nestbox (either homemade or bought) is a wooden box with a circular hole just big enough to admit small birds, or may be open fronted for larger birds such as owls, etc. The nestbox can be fixed high in a tree or on the side of a house. The aim is to give a nesting box that a mated pair of birds can lay and raise their young.
How do you tell if your common gray cockatiel is a boy or girl?
The only way to tell if your CAG is male or female is to do a DNA blood test. Take your CAG to your avian vet and they will clip its nail just far enough to get a drop of blood. They send it off and you'll get your results in about a week! I DNA tested my CAG and it cost around $20.
