Is it possible to move a killdeer nest?
Before I tell you the answer, let me just say that there are laws prohibiting any disturbance of a migratory bird's nest and there are fines and penalties for doing so. That said, they should only be moved if absolutely necessary and only if the only other option is the destruction of the nest.
Yes, it is possible, but it has to be done very, very carefully or the bird may abandon the nest.
Hybridization or induced mutation
Can you put parakeets outside for awhile in warm weather?
This depends on a couple of factors, but generally the answer is "yes".
1. What is meant by "parakeet"? The term "parakeet" is a generalised term to cover numerous species of smaller, long-tailed parrots. 'Parakeet' also tends to be a commonly mistaken name for budgerigars, small members of the parrot species. Birds classified under the term parakeet include budgies, cockatiels, rosellas and lorikeets. Different birds have different levels of hardiness. Budgies, for example, are not very hardy in draughts.
2. What is meant by "warm weather"? Australia's definition of warm weather is vastly different to that of England, for instance. In Australia, "warm" is anything over 26 degrees Celsius whilst in England that is a heatwave. English folk might consider 16 degrees to be warm, but that would be too cold for a parrot of any sort to be outside. They are essentially warm to hot weather birds.
Sometimes you can hear flapping, but mostly they are just too far away to hear it. Birds of prey tend to glide in when they attack so that their prey cannot hear them flapping and escape.
Examples: owls make a soft shushing sound when they fly and mourning doves make a chirping sound that is actually their wings touching together on the down-stroke.
How do you tell a boy or girl bugies apart?
if on top of a parakeets nose is blue it is a boy if pink or white it is a girl.
Birds generally sing or call in order to attract a mate. It is the male that does the singing to impress the female. Another reason birds sing is to announce territory or to scare off intruders. For example, if you get too close to an eagle's nest when there are eggs being protected, the mother may dive bomb you and screech at you.
What is the origin of the myth stating a duck's quack does not echo?
The origin of the myth is simply a play on the old question "if a tree fell in a Forest and no one was around to hear it would it make any sound?"
They say a ducks quack doesn't echo because you will rarely find ducks in places that cause echoes. A beach with cliffs, a ravine or a cave.
Birds will eat whatever they become accustomed to eating and what they like. You can try offering cucumber if you want. Be aware that birds will not readily eat foods they don't recognize as being food, so you have to keep offering new foods every day until the bird realizes that this new item is food and tries it!
Why do canaries beaks turn black?
Canaries beaks can turn black if there is bleeding under the beak. This can be considered as being bruised blood.
What does the cry of the crow sound like?
caw because a rooster makes a crow and a crow makes a caw so they are opposites.
parakeetsLOVE to eat bread, bananas and apples. my parakeet goes crazy when she sees bread, or anything that looks like bread!
What do sun conures prefer a happy hut or a bird tent?
Mine personally love a happy hut over a bird tent if they are the type I'm thinking you are writing about. I think they prefer a happy hut because they actually lean forward and somewhat lay down as a double stacker (there's two), rather than stand up on a stick. The same goes for my cinnamon green-cheeck conure, except my parakeets want nothing to do with a lot of things such as toys, housing, bird baths, etc.
It varies from bird to bird, but my sun conures love their happy hut.
