Use a vegetable oil to grease the wheel. Something like olive oil, canola oil, etc will work fine, as it greases the wheel, but will not hurt the rat when it licks it.

Is it ok for a baby mouse to have red feet?

As long as they are not purple, or purplish-red or blue. Then they will be fine, if the coloring stays as it grows to an adult. It's not normal then, take it to a vet if that happens.

But if you are getting very concerned about it, just call up the vet and arrange a little appointment.

What is the life span of a domesticated rat?

Do rats have 15000 babies per couple?

No. The average lifespan of a wild rat is a bit less than a year. Assuming a couple begins breeding as soon as they are mature, and continue breeding, the couple would have 54 little rats in one year. If THEIR babies begin breeding as soon as mature, and the grandbaby rats did likewise, there would be a total of 1,808 rats after 1 year- assuming none died during the year.

Fifteen thousand is not a realistic number.

Can you hold a mouse?

At first, pick the mouse up by the base of or middle of it's tail, not the end as you'll break it. the base is thicker & stronger for it.

Lower the mouse onto your hand & stroke it gently. If it's flighty, hold the tail gently as well.

Are white rats dangerous?

I really depends on the wildness of the rat. If it's entirely wild, as in you found it outside in a garden or something, then yeah, it's most likely dangerous. Imagine a cornered cougar and put it into the small body of a rat and there ya go. Nasty business, especially without protection while catching it.

However....color doesn't matter when it comes to rats, they can all be very gentle or very nasty, it depends on their personalities. So if you have a new PET rat, that is white and has a bad attitude then...yeah I guess he/she's dangerous. Same can be said for a brown/black/agouti/ etc rat. Color has nada to do with it.

Are male or female rats calmer?

Male rats tend to get lazy as they mature.

Do father rats eat baby rats?

If the buck is the father there is hardly any chance since they are not lust seekers. They mate to pass their genes. I kept pet lab rats for years and the parents ate the babies from their own litters on a regular basis. This action ,if done by the father ,will prompt the female into estrus(heat) again.
