If you cannot spend most of your time with your slider, get him/her a companion. This type of animal will get very depressed if left alone. They are great pets, but need constant attention.
How many times a day do you feed eastern long necked turtles?
you can feed it 1 to 2 times a week to prevent over feeding it
turtles will basically eat anything they can catch, alive or dead. I know for sure they can't digest animal fat, it doesnt hurt them but goes right through them and as you can expect creates a nice mess in their tank. I've also been told that water turtles love to chase and chow down on gold fish and they also eat and digest better in water. Oh and I think the worst thing that could happen to them as far as food is concerned is they shouldn't eat too many fruit and veggies because it will lead to an upset stomach.

Can turtles lay eggs at the age of 4?
Yes a pet slider turtle can begin to lay eggs at the age of four when she reaches maturity. If she does not have a place where she can bury her eggs she will old them inside of her until she can't anymore. She will then just drop them in the water in her tank.
How many years do Indian roofed turtle live?
Indian roofed turtles have an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years. Some turtle species can live as long as 30 to 70 years.
There are roughly between 250 and 300 species of turtles, the name of the species of turtle would help answer this correctly. Generally speaking, loss of habitat is one of the largest issues that turtles face, either on land or in the water. Then add in the hunting, or fishing of the larger species for their meat, and their shell, plus the loss of nesting sites. For more details please, see sites listed below.

How do you catch a turtle while fishing in a pond?
Some people can accidentally catch turtles while fishing with a normal line in a body of water. Trying to catch one using a hook could be harmful to the turtle and may cause permanent damage to the jaw or nasal area. The best way to catch one is by using a reptile safe trap (one which allows the turtle to come up for air while still inside), or to just dive right in after it. Either way, it is always best to know your local laws about catching these animals before you go out and do it. There are certain species in certain states that you are not allowed to take out of their natural habitat.
Is there a way to determine the age of a red ear slider?

There could be a number of health problems. Internal and external. First, look for any possible scratches that could be infected. Many turtles will develop sores from where they rub on the plastic or glass of a tank and if left untreated, will become infected. Turtles are like many reptiles. If they eat a big enough meal, sometimes they won't eat for days, even months. My snapping turtle went a whole 6 months without eating. Water temperature could be a factor. Turtles are sluggish in cold water and extremely agitated if the water is just a degree above comfort. And They become bored with their food very fast which is why it is suggested to feed them a variety of food. Stress could be a problem. If you moved anything in the tank or pond where he is kept, he may not like that and would probably like the habitat the way it was. Hope this helps
Where do yellow bellied terrapins lay eggs?
In the wild, they lay their eggs on land. In soil and leaf litter. In captivity however they don't always have access to an idea nesting site, especially if they're kept in a tank with a turtle dock as the only form of land for them. When that happens they'll either lay in the water (in which case the eggs will be useless) or worse they'll retain the eggs and that will cause further problems for the mother. If that happens you need to get them checked out by a vet, who will be able to give them an injection to make them lay, if that doesn't work the vet will probably have to operate.
If you need any more info, I can be reached through my website (see related link) I'm always happy to offer advice.

Can you super glue a cracked turtle shell?
Hi -
So when turtle shell repair methods were first being developed, super glue and epoxy repair methods were the first techniques attempted. While this was an admirable idea to ensure the turtle was not vulnerable, unfortunately all it did was seal in infection without the ability to treat it.
Super glue/epoxy/fiber glass techniques are no longer recommended for turtle shell repairs. Instead, there have been several techniques that have been proven both effective and safe for the patient.
- place small areas of epoxy along the shell fracture (making sure it does NOT enter the wound bed) and place sewing hooks, zip ties, etc on the epoxy
- after the epoxy has set, use small gauge wire, make a simple figure-eight wire tie and gently twist to bring the two edges of the shell close together
Many local wildlife rehabilitators and exotic veterinarians are familiar with this method and are willing to help teach. Please consider contacting them prior to attempting a shell repair.
How do you decorate red eared sliders tank?
Well, I have two red-eared sliders. And I just fill their tank with a lot of small rocks since I go to the beach sometimes, and I have so many rocks in my backyard. You don't have to do that, but then the "droppings" and food that's not eaten would sink to the floor and your turtle(s) would be swimming in it. If you have rocks, sometimes those things are buried underneath. I also have like small "trees" for decorations, and a shallow rock. If your turtle(s) are big and you realize the tank is REALLY dirty when you clean it, you should get a bigger tank or clean it more often. I clean mine 3-4 days and by then, it's really dirty. Well I hope this helped! If you have any more "caring for turtles" questions, just ask me!
