The most usual reason I see matting this time of the year is due to fleas. If your cat is not on a flea preventative that would be the first place I would check. Check next to the skin for little black specks, which we call flea dirt. That is the indicator that there are fleas on your cat and may be causing her to groom herself more than usual, causing the matting. Water and dead coat is what makes a matt, and the saliva from your cats tongue combined with the dead coat will cause the matting. If fleas are the problem, then check with your vet on which flea preventative they think would be the best for your cat. If fleas are not the problem, it could be allergies, in which case you should take your cat to the vet for proper treatment for whatever allergy they determine may be the cause of the itching/excessive grooming. As a groomer, regular grooming may not be enough for some cats and may just require a session with your groomer to have the excess coat removed by professional equipment used only by your groomer.

How long is recovery for a cat declaw?
Every cat will heal at their own speed however when my cat was declawed he came home from the vets the day after surgery. He walked a little slow for a day and was careful not to jump much but was back to normal within a couple of days. He was 8 months when he was declawed.
About two weeks for the feet to mostly heal up, cats can be back to normal like the answer above said in about a week. One of mine is up to almost 4 weeks now and is still bleeding because she's chewing on her feet.

Just to expand the answer a little, please be aware that some cats can develop joint or muscle (even behaviour issues such as biting) problems many years after the delawing operation.
