probably a 3.08 ratio. you can jack up one wheel and spin it around exactly twice. count how many full rotations the driveshaft makes and it will be your gear ratio. jack up both wheels and spin them once for posi rearends. you could go to this site too: http://www.rustynutscarclub.com/novaaxlecode.htm
Why does my 1987 chev nova run rough until the temperature of the eng goes up?
There may be a vacuum leak or a stuck EGR needle. I cleaned the EGR valve on my 87 Chevy Nova and the idle straightened out. The EGR valve was allowing exhaust gasses to escape into the fuel mix at the wrong rpm. It is suppose to open at high rpm to cool the internal chamber and prevent high temperature chemical reactions that result in unwanted emission's.

What is the biggest size engine that will fit in a 1977 Chevy Nova?
The answer to this question is, more appropriately, "How big is your wallet?" The frame on these cars is similar to what came on the 67-69 Camaros and Firebirds. There is plenty of room to fit a big block Chevy, Pontiac 455, Buick 455, Olds 455, and very likely a Cadillac 472/500 with factory parts. The Chevy big block can be made to over 700 cubic inches. This is not the cheapest option ($40k plus). There are many companies that offer frame mount conversions for almost any engine. If you have access to a welder, these frame mounts would not be difficult to fabricate.
How do you adjust 600 cfm holley?
The idle speed and idle mixture are the first things to adjust and are very easy. If there is an off-idle stumble or a bog, you'll need to make adjustments to the accelerator pump and possibly the power valve to suit your engine. Here is a link to a Holley manual that explains it in detail: http://www.holley.com/data/TechService/Technical/Carburetor%20Tech%20Info.pdf
