They were on par with the US. In some cases pretty good; they copied our Atomic Bomb and tested it in 1949, bringing the Soviets into the Atomic Age; they made an EXACT copy of our B-29 Superfortress Bomber after capturing two of them in Northern China/Siberia in WW2; they made copies of our Air to Air missiles and had them shot back at us, when those missiles were attached to the under bellies of the North Vietnamese Air Force MIG-21's during the Vietnam War. All the result of Soviet (Russian) military intell work.

What strategies has the US employed to ensure its security?

The US Air Force & US Navy are strategic forces; they can traverse the globe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year...year after year. The US Army (The US Marine Corps are part of the US Navy) is a tactical force; it can ONLY fight when & where the Air Force or Navy puts them. During the cold war, US strategies involved the USAF/USN constantly patrolling the globe (earth); the USAF was armed with SAC (Strategic Air Command) B-52 Stratofortess bombers, each loaded with an Atomic Weapon, these bombers were airborne 24-7 on a rotation basis. In the continental US, buried deep beneath the earth were USAF ICBM's in missile silos (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles). The USN patrolled the oceans with nuclear powered submarines: Boomers & Fast Attack. Boomers were armed with naval versions of ICBMs; Fast Attack subs were hunter killer subs, designed to kill Soviet submarines.

Then little shops called boutiques opened selling cheap and colorful clothing for younger people. During the decade, women started wearing mini skirts, leather boots and fake eyelashes. Men wore Paisley shirts, velvet trousers and high collared Regency jackets. Men also began to wear their hair long.

1960-1962 - At this time, there was a carry over from the 50's, including the "bouffant" look. A "bouffant" look is a dress where the top part is tight and the skirt of the dress puffs out. The popular hairstyle was a beehive, where they tease their hair and piled it high on their head. Another look during this time was the beatnik. The beat look included black berets, black slacks (tight for women) and dark glasses. Women wore float shoes while men wore sandals. Women wore dark eye makeup.

Is balance of power and alliances relate to Great Depression during world war 2?

The great depression of the 1930's influenced the power and alliances of the nations involved in WW2.

The transition from World War 2 to Cold war was virtually seamless. How can this be explained?

The Russians, by the time the had got to Berlin had been at war for a very considerable time, without cessation. D Day to Berlin was less than 12 months for the British, & US & Canadians. Yes, I know there had been fighting all through North Africa & Sicily & Italy, and that offensive showed how tough warfare had become. But the Russians were really unsure, in many ways, of just how to get on with their 'Allies'. US General Mark Clark was vocal in his hostility towards the Russian Communist regime, propaganda was rife in all things, no less in Russia than anywhere else. The Russians had advanced all the way from Stalingrad at the start of 1943 & had now occupied most of eastern Europe as far west as Vienna & Prague & Budapest & the Elbe river. Yalta & Potsdam had taken over from what had been said at Casablanca & Tehran...And the terrible reality was realised, as had been suspected in the efforts to help the Poles in the Warsaw Uprising were denied by Soviet intransigence. Why ? No, I cannot say. The Soviets were quite happy to accept the Murmansk convoys of ships full of tanks & aircraft & bullets & so on. When it came to giving the people of eastern Europe their freedom from Nazi tyrrany they replaced it with more of the same: Soviet tyrrany. Explanation ? No, not from me.

How was the cold war won?

There was no clear victor of the Cold War between Soviet Russia and the United States. This is mainly because both sides suffered defeats and gained victories. While Soviet Russia was the first to launch a human, Yuri Gagarin, into space, many of the Soviet scientists had taken ideas from U.S. scientists. In addition to this, the Soviet Union had to endure defeat as the Berlin Wall was demolished. So, an answer to your question: there was no winner or loser.

How was Reagan Revolution a response to political crises?

Reagan was a no-nonsense man. He chose the right men to do the job, if they couldn't or wouldn't do the job, he replaced them. When he had a problem, he spoke with the men he hired. He expected to speak with only one man. And not waste his time or words with others, unless needed. If that ONE man couldn't do what he was hired to do, then he was replaced with a man that could. When Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada) commenced in 1983, NO ONE except those that were supposed to know, knew what happened. The press was censured; and the military took care of the rest. Reagan wanted NO Vietnam negative press. So the operation was conducted in a clean, quick, efficient manner. Reagan represented NO double speak (NO double talk), do the job you were hired to do. As the Federal Air Controllers found out, when they were all FIRED (thousands of them!). Reagon was NOT Politically Correct; a horse was a horse, and a car was a car.
