How long does it take to update to windows 8.1?

It depends on your internet speed and your computer speed. For me, it took about 2 hours to download the update and another 1.5 hours to install it. Many people have had to install it more than once though, and it is a real good idea to backup all of your files in case you have to factory reset your computer and download it again.

What are the factors that effect the overall processing capabilities of a computer?

Hardware can affect the speed that data is processed. Newer processors will process faster, and newer devices such as hard discs will operate faster and with greater reliability.

All hardware fails eventually.

The hardware may not be up to the specifications that the software requires.

Software can affect data processing. If it is not designed and coded well, it may be slow, use too much resources such as memory or have too many bugs which may cause the data processing to crash.

Software needs to be developed in a proper way, from design through coding, testing and implementation. If changes in circumstances occur in the stage, or it is rushed, then this may result in inefficient programs. Software that has not been properly tested will crash too frequently.

Software may look impressive but is of little use if it is incompatible with other hardware and software, or it does not provide the functions needed.

The operating system needs to be suitable for the system - You could not run a mainframe operating system on a palm-top computer.

The data being processed must be ip-to-date, accurate, relevant and complete. Remember - GIGO - Garbage In, Garbage Out!

Other factors affecting the efficiency of data processing systems :

  • poor communications with the user. Problems may not be properly notified.
  • poor user ability. Poor ICT skills.
  • procedures not in place for trouble-shooting or making adequate backups.
  • maintenance procedures need to be in place to keep the system bug-free and adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • insufficient investment.
  • no proper provision of support.

How much hard disk space does windows xp use?

The Capacity is not dictated by the software, but more along the lines of your hardware. Windows is capable of storing up to 26 drives with Letters A-Z but usually 3 of those letters is in use by Peripherals such as CD drives and Burners along with floppy drives or removable media. Hypothetically you should be able to store numerous terrabytes of information. There really is no set limit that I know of.

Where do you connector the red edge of 40-pin ribbon cable to an IDE hard drive?

The red edge of a 40-pin ribbon cable is connected to pin one on the IDE hard drive. If you fail to do so correctly, it may result in the hard drive being completely unable to communicate with your system.

How do you re burn on a CD-R?

You can't. CD-R is a read-only medium.

Some software will allow you to create a multi-session disk. This is generally only used for data discs though, not for music. With a multi-session disk you can burn multiple times, but you cannot write over any existing data. So, you still only get a total 700MB of data, but you don't have to write it all at once.

Is an example of an input device?

A mouse is an input device.

Very good. This is a good example of an input device. An imput device is any signal that is introduced to the receiver. The mouse is a plug-in physical signal. But there are wireless signals as well. You can have a wireless mouse. It has a pre-set wireless signal and when the computer recognizes it, it works.

The receiver is an output device. When you add an imput device to a radiio, or an amplifier or a channel receiver, you are adding a signal to the receiver. The receiver recogniizes the signal and responds accordingly. If it does not recognize the signal, nothing happens. The receiver cannot process it. When you turn the dial on your radio or tv, you are changing the signal electronically. So it is true when you add cable to your tv. this gives you imput signals. Your tuner reacts accordingly. Change the imput, change the channel.
