Keyboard symbols, such as ! " £ $ % & @ { } are self explanatory.

On a laptop (usually) there may be other symbols to be used along with the Ctrl, Alt, and or a special function key (fn) to brighten or dim the screen, to raise or lower the volume, and so on.

In my younger days,we had row houses.They were all in a row and all looked the same. as in mill hill houses.The mills would build houses and rent them to the mill workers.There is an old saying "I owe my soul to the company store" this also came from the mill hill villages where the mills owned the houses,stores,everything!!

ADDED: As a Transatlantic difference, if these what I think they are - all joined into a long, single building - in the UK they are called "terraced" houses. Although an 18C concept they did become particularly associated with 19C industrial (not just mill) towns, but a lot of modern housing developments now are of terraced form.

The "company store" ethos was used in Britain too, but its inherent unfairness led to its legal abolishment under a 19C law I think called the "Truck Acts".

go to start-settings-control panel and choose regional and language option

now go to language tab and click on details

in details you will see the keyboard option

just click on add and add your appropriate language keyboard

click on ok and you are done..

Or for vista you can type "Character Map" in the start search box.

Some concept keyboards don't include numeric numbers. You can only access the options that are shown on the screen

On a keyboard the times button has the symbol "*" printed on it, this is usually found as upper case "8" but there may also be a "*" present on the numeric keypad section of your keyboard, if your keyboard has this.
