The main advantage is that optical mice don't wear out as ball mice do. Ball mice are mechanical and the mechanics detecting the position wear out after a few years. Optical mice are also less fussy about the surface they are used on.

USB is the latest method of using a keyboard and mouse however, before the use of a USB hub, the use of green and purple PS/2 slots were available; purple for the keyboard, and green for the mouse. GO to start , then go to settings , then control panel, then look for an icon for mouse

double click that and then choose the option switch primary and secondary options,

and it wil take effect right away
