How energy efficient is a fluorescent bulb and how much does it cost to run one 5ft fluorescent bulb 9hrs a day for the average business year excluding weekends bank holidays etc in british pounds?

The formula is (bulb watts x ballast power factor) x hours / 1000 = kWh

Cost is simply kWh x gbp

For example: Your light bulb is 60 watts, evidenced by the writing on the bulb saying... 60 watts. However, fluorescent lights have a ballast, which is a type of transformer. Each ballast converts the input voltage to something usable by the fluor. bulb. In the case of modern electronic ballasts (vs. magnetic), the power factor ranges from .65 - 1.0. You can get this info from the manufacturers website. For this demonstration, we'll use .88, which is the standard power factor in the US for the big 3 ballast manufacturers.

Next calculate your hours, for the energy industry, we accept 2080 hours for office buildings. This covers janitorial staff, weekend workers, etc.

So, we have (60*.88)*2080/1000 = 5798 kWh ?? The answer I get is 109.824 kWh when using the above formula. Where did 5798 come from ??

How many btu needed for 450 sq ft?

Check with the sales people in the store for your area and climate. I would say a 10 or 12,000 btu would do it, if you are only going to buy 1 unit.

In a typical residential application, your space is probably divided into different rooms. In that case, it is difficult to get cool air from one room to another. In that situation you would want multiple air conditioners. They usually do not come in a size less than 5,000 btu's per hour. So, to achieve enough total cooling, you will probably want two or more small air conditioners, one in the living room and one in each bedroom.

How does a clapper work?

The clapper contains a microphone and a trigger circuit that responds to sharp, loud noises such as your hands clapping. Chances are good that they have included a circuit which limits the range of frequencies in which it'll respond, helping to tune it to match the audio frequency of the clapping sound.

The trigger circuit has several possible designs, especially in designing the portion that controls the AC for the lights, TV, etc. But rest assured, the manufacturer will make it the most dependable and least expensive way possible.

It's relatively easy to design and build yourself, but mass production just makes it more convenient and in most cases, cheaper to just go ahead and buy one.

What makes a robot a robot and not just a machine?

What makes a robot is A.I.( artificial intelligence) if you have a computer on wheels it's not a robot a robot is a electronic device that can do multiple tasks, a robot that rolls isn't a robot it has to do multiple tasks like my robot shamrock 17 it is real it glides, fights, rolls, and can be switched to remote controlled or free roaming so pretty much it has to do at least two tasks.

How much mAh does two AAA baterries have?

Well, darling, each AAA battery typically has a capacity of around 1000-1200 mAh, so if you've got two of those bad boys, you're looking at a total capacity of 2000-2400 mAh. Just enough juice to power up your remote control or whatever else you've got in mind.

Can an electronic detector be developed for security purposes for a common man to be safe from explosives and weapons and is it possible to have this security detector along with the cell phone?

As "weapons" encompasses a vast array of items, I'm going to assume that the question refers to weapons which use some sort of explosive in them, e.g. guns or bombs.

The detection of explosives other than by direct inspection (e.g. using X-Rays or similar methods to actually "see" the item) is done by chemical "sniffing" - that is, detecting trace amounts of vapors that explosives give off constantly.

In the case of cartridges used in guns, there's no real way to have a portable explosives sniffer be sensitive enough to detect ordinary mass-produced cartridges for firearms. These cartridges are sealed quite well, and only give off exceedingly small amounts of gases - so small, that even very large static scanners have an extremely hard time detecting it. Even items such as military grenades are likely to be sealed well enough to avoid giving off enough gas to be detected except by extremely sensitive equipment.

In the case of attempting to detect residue and vapors from hand-assembled explosive devices (handmade bombs and I.E.D. and such), there are several hand-held "sniffers" available. However, they are generally at least the size of a 1990s-era cell phone themselves. Also, remember that these devices generally have a range of a couple of feet - much less if the explosive items are inside something, or have only just been placed in the location.

As a practical manner, there is no way to build an explosives detector small enough to fit into a cell phone.
