What are differences between corn and pea plants?

Because corn is a cereal crop just like barley, wheat, rye, and triticale, since it is a grass plant which is capable of sexual reproduction which produces seeds much like any other grass plant species that exists on Earth. These seeds are harvested and compiled together as grain. The seeds are called kernels.

Corn is a plant that has been artificially selected over many many breedings to produce kernels that are larger than any other grass seed and stay on the cob much longer than any other native grass species, relying on humans to harvest and disperse the seeds and not Nature. Hence, corn was made into a grain.

Is the corn on the toe supposed to be white while using a corn remover?

Yes it should be white. It will be white for a few days. If you are using the little circular removers, when you peel it off after a couple of days, the white, dead skin will come off also. I was worried just like you. Trust me. It works though. Your toe will then turn pink and within a week will return to your skin color. I've also tried the liquid acid. The same process will take place. You will see the white skin start to come off or peel or its own. At that point you can simply lift it and pull it off.

Can you eat the shuck of the corn?

I see nothing wrong with it. Washing is recommended because it is grown outside, and if it is not organic, pesticide are likely to be on it. The corn may not be as tender. It is all a matter of preference. I have had raw corn, and there have been no problems. I am talking about sweet corn. Dent corn is inedible, but is used most often (it is altered before being made for human consumption). Even if you eat dent corn raw (as long as you don't eat too much of it) it will likely pass in the same way gum passes through your system if you accidentally swallow it(gum is flavored rubber).

What is the purpose of corn silk on a corn plant?

The anther of a corn plant is at the very top. The anthers, attached to their filament, make up the stamen. The stamen produce pollen. The silk on the ear of corn is the pistil, made up of a stigma, a style, and an ovary. Each thread of silk is attached to an ovary (potential seed), which will develop into a kernel of corn. The pistil must receive some pollen from the anthers in order to fertilize the ovary and make a kernel of corn. Without the silk (pistil), there would be no kernel. Removing all of the pistils from an ear of corn will result in no corn on the cob.

What foods can you make from maize?

corn

======

Well.... "corn" as the word is used in the U.S. is that same thing that is called "maize" in England. Obvious things made out of corn or maize are corn chowder, cornbread, and corn pudding. The grain is also fermented to produce some whiskeys and ethanol-petroleum mixture fuel. Corn starch exists in some foods and some non-food products. A component of corn is also used in plastic-replacement disposable spoons and forks.

Corn is also used in corn syrup (high-fructose or normal), corn chips, nacho chips, corn tortillas, corn flakes, and grits. Other non-food uses are in the production of adhesives and some kinds of fabrics.

And, of course, livestock feed, the largest single usage in the US.

How do you select and prepare fresh corn on the cob?

Sweet corn can be enjoyed raw, roasted, or steamed. The Environmental Working Group lists corn as the second cleanest crop in terms of pesticide residue. Unfortunately, much of the corn crop is genetically modified, so it's still best to buy organic and local whenever possible. Summer is the season for fresh corn.
