i am not sure but I do know that: -counter-strike uses the half-life engine -half-life comes pre-installed with counter-strike all you have to know is if counter-strike is a stand-alone game (which i believe it is) counter-strike contains "hl.exe" so you should be able to play it without half-life

After download winrar, install it then right click on the file counter strike that you downloaded and right-click it and extract it with winrar. it should say you have to type in a password for it, its called digitalpowered.info

No, you do not need counter-strike to play gmod. I don't even have counter strike but i do have gmod. A word of warning though, a lot of the materials and weapons in counter strike are used in garrysmod. Mostly in mods, and maps. It is recommended to have it.

Counterstrike source is better in terms of graphics but the gameplay is the same. However AI is really bad so bots suck. If you are looking for a game that can be easily played on any computer then look at CS 1.6 because it requires less and is generally simpler to install and play. Also CS 1.6 has a larger community.

The terrorist skins that are in counter strike source are on Google images. You can downloads a program called GIMP from here http://www.gimp.org/. This software is like Photo shop but very easy to do and many tutorials on youtube.
