throw it out. Typically custard curdles because the eggs weren't tempered when mixing with the hot milk. ALWAYS add the scalded milk a spoon at a time to the egg yolk/sugar mixture and stir well. Never put cold egg yolk into hot milk.

Name of a dessert of layered sponge with stewed fruit puree or custard?
I have a recipe book from 1965 with a Ben Rhydding pudding from Yorkshire. Stewed fruit is layered with thin slices of 6 sponge cakes (trifle sponges) in a mold. It is then weighted down with a plate and something heavy, left until cold, and turned out. Served with custard or cream. I remember my Grandmother from Nottinghamshire making this when I was a child, and I recall it as was very tasty. I am going to have a try at making it with summer fruits from the freezer. Yummy!

What happens when the custard powder is placed in the tin and then lit?
you need to put oil on the bottom or else it will stick to the pan and burn up
You can warm it. I find that it brings out the flavor. You don't want to get it hot, though, as it would get too running. For one serving, just to take the chill off, warm in the microwave on high for 10 seconds. To actually make it warm, put it in for 18 seconds. This assumes that you have just taken it from the fridge.
