The Republic of Cyprus is one country.
In 1974 it was invaded by Turkey after an attempted coup by the Greek Cypriots. They occupied, and still control, the northern part of the island, calling itself the Turkish Republic of Cyprus though this is only recognised by Turkey itself.
Small areas are, by treaty, given over the the UK for use as military bases.

There are no major rivers in Cyprus any longer- it has never had more than one or two anyway, as it is effectively in the Middle East which is too hot to allow rivers to form.
