Floppy disks generally had the following makeup:

- A thin, plastic disk that went practically all the way to the edge of whatever casing held the disk.

- Also on later models, a cotton-like substance was included in the disk's interior on both sides to help remove dust as the disk was spun.

- A small plastic tab (a sliding switch) was available on some floppies; when set to a particular position, the disk's drive controller would refuse to write data to the disk, making it "read only."

So, basically, a few bits of metal, a few bits of plastic, coated with some more metal, and a bit of cotton for good measure.

Advantages of using RAM include being able to do more work better than waiting for everything to move from desktop to hard disk and then back again. Disadvantages are mainly to do with how often you have saved your work. If the computer stops before you have saved any work then all is lost

Any device for storing data must have certain components. A way of getting information into the device is usually done through the network the device is connected to. The same arrangement gets information out as well. The storage is done in memory such as Random Access Memory that can 'remember' the information even if electricity is not there.

They hold stuff until you need it later. Computer storage devices are machines that read stored data from storage media such as CDs.

Ram memory as of 5-6-12, 2 to 4 gigs of Ram would be acceptable on the standard to low end up to about 16 gigs for windows 7

Summary what Ram does:

if you clicked on a program like word it would launch from your hard drive into Ram so you can make changes like type a report. When you save and close word the program exits and goes back into storage on your hard drive.

Next the hard drive itself which is all about Rotations per minute (Rpm) the faster the hard drive spins the faster it can access data, i usually turn to tweaking windows to run faster before upgrading a hard drive for just speed. This is how i view today's speeds so you have a clue as to whats good and whats not.

Primary memory is the main memory of the computer. This is subdivided in to RAM (Ransdom access memory) and ROM ( Read-Only memory - used for storing loading instruections by manufacturer - BIOS ).

RAM is used for temporary storage and volatile in nature. All datas will be get erased on power off.

All instruction to the CPU is loaded in the main memory once the OS and applications are initaited .
