By cutting down rain forest what is the result of wildlife animals?
The wildlife is displaced. They will need to find another home that is suitable to their former habitat. Some wildlife will not survive.
What is sustainable development how can it help minimize the negative impacts f human activities?
Basically, sustainable development is "meeting the needs of the current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to also meet their needs." To meet those ends, it incorporates concepts of conservation/preservation, social justice, and consumption/over-consumption patterns (among other concepts) as well as taking into account personally living a meaningful and rewarding life, without infringing on others' ability to do the same. It will only minimize negative impacts through raising awareness of consequences to a point where people consider the potential implications of their actions. For a practical, real-world example of the application of sustainable development principles, look up the "cradle to cradle" movement.
What are Adjectives for deforestation?
The systamatic felling of all trees in order to prodcuce lumber for use in the housing, furniture, paper and other industries which require raw lumber. Or where an enormous amount of clear land is required.
How does cutting down trees cause erosion?
well I guess it would be possible if the dust that rose from where the tree fell included soil and it was carried off by the wind yes
Yes. Cutting down trees causes soil erosion because the tree roots help hold the soil in place. This protects the soil from being washed away during rainfall, or blown away by the wind.
How many trees are used in cardboard?
Very few trees are used in the production of cardboard, because just about all cardboard is recycled. Cardboard is made by moistening and heat drying already used cardboard. It is first made into huge rolls of paper and then layered to form thicker cardboard.
What damage is done to the rainforest by deforestation?
Tropical rain forests are affected by deforestation worldwide, especially in Indonesia, the Amazon, and Africa.
What is advantages of deforestation?
It can be good; it is not necessarily good. Deforestation happens naturally from time to time via wildfires. Trees, plants, and animals all recover from such events naturally; indeed, some benefit from a fire. Bird such as the black-backed woodpecker thrive ONLY in freshly burned areas, where they eat insects that bore into the burned trees. Some trees such as the lodgepole pine produce serrotonous cones, cones that are fused shut and only open when a wildfire cooks the cone, thereby spreading the seeds into a freshly burned area with little other competition. Over time, burned areas regrow into forests. For an example, a visit to Yellowstone National Park today reveals a forest that is 20 years old (major fires burned much of the park in 1988) and filled with medium-height lodgepole pines. People cause deforestation for a number of reasons. The action is not always permanent; some countries are better at replanting forests than others. Trees can be converted into paper or wood, two products that human civilization uses daily. In some parts of the world, wood is still a major source of fuel for cooking and heating. Chances are wood is a major component of your home's structure, the main use for timber in the U.S. Wood may be used to build furniture, cabinetry, or other products. Paper is used in many ways. Trees may be cut down for forest management reasons, also. One reason is to limit a wildfire's ability to spread. This may be done in an emergency to combat an active fire, or in a methodically planned long-term harvest. Certain types of wildlife benefit from recovering forests after harvest: the snowshoe hare and its predator the Canada lynx are two that come to mind. Many animals benefit from edge habitat created by responsible logging. As the previous contributor said, deforestation can be good. Particularly if the forest in question is unmanaged. You see, though all plants consume carbon dioxide, some consume more than others. Young, rapidly-growing plants consume much more carbon dioxide, on a per acre basis, than mature trees. Moreover, in an unmanaged forest, net carbon dioxide consumption is actually zero. This is because when trees die, they rot, and in doing so release all of the carbon stored over their lives, to combine with oxygen in the atmosphere to form carbon dioxide. In a mature, unmanaged forest, the carbon dioxide released by dying trees balances that being consumed by living trees, and the net is zero. To some extent, trees can store carbon in the soil beneath them, slightly lowering the amount that is released into the atmosphere when they die. However, in rain forests in particular, the soils are very thin and cannot contain much carbon at all. Also, the Amazon Rain Forest is home to about half of all insects in the world, and insects produce more carbon dioxide, just by breathing, than all human activities, including fossil fuel burning. If the Amazon Rain Forest were harvested (not burned, just cut) and replanted with a fast-growing species of tree (say, pine), and that new forest was managed carefully (including regualr harvesting) to maximize carbon dioxide consumption and sequestration, we would be much better off in terms of carbon dioxide consumption. When the trees (both the initial rain forest trees and the replacement pine trees) are cut, they would be converted to lumber, or simply treated to prevent rotting, making them very efficient long-term carbon storage devices, and keeping billions of tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. I've done the calculations, and with the combination of higher carbon dioxide consumption by plants and lower carbon dioxide production by insects (they would die when they lose their habitat), we would need to cut only about 1/6 of the Amazon Rain Forest to completely offset all human-industrial carbon dioxide emissions. One more note. Burning the forest is not a good idea. Burning immediately releases carbon into the atmosphere to form carbon dioxide, as opposed to the gradual process that occurs when the trees die and rot. The World Meteorological Organization and other official centers as the KNMI in Netherlands, have concluded that deforestation is one of the causes behind the negative consequences in climate changes at a global scale. Deforestation is never a problem that can be solved after it happens, reforestation with pines or other not native species will only add to the loss of environmental balance at the area, given that the new species are not suited for the native wildlife or conditions, producing secondary changes in the microclimate and the local habitat. It does not exist any scientific study that can remotely assert that the metabolism of insects has any relation with or sizable impact on environmental and climate changes. Human activities including deforestation and gas emissions have been proven to be the main reasons for such changes. Plants and animals in the natural world typically benefit from one type of habitat or another, or else benefit from living along the boundaries between two habitat types. Animals that are specifically adapted to live in the forest cannot usually survive if their habitat is taken away. However, deforestation may benefit certain other animals, particularly grazing animals. It is for this reason that humans clear forests such as the Amazon for cattle grazing. Many birds benefit from having two habitats next to each other; the forest provides security but little food while the open field provides food but relatively little security. Living along the boundary allows these types of animals to benefit from the strengths of both habitats. Deer are another example of an animal that may benefit from "edge" habitat.
Similarly, plants have differing sunlight and moisture requirements. In general, forest plants have broad leaves to catch what little sunlight falls on the forest floor, but those big leaves have a larger moisture requirement. Plants that live in the open have an abundance of sunlight and consequently little moisture; grass, for example. Take away the trees, and the plants that lived in the forest get cooked by the abundance of sunlight and die. == ==
Some people think it's good for the economy, but most people think its really bad. Or maybe it just depends what side are you on. Are you for the economy, or the sake of wildlife.
How is deforestation and desertification affecting the people of southern Africa?
because Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world of NBA
What is a damaging effect of deforestation?
Deforestation contributes to climate change
several way.while tree do convert CO2, in Oxygen, Trees also absorb solar heat, and actually release moisture drawn from the ground back into the atmosphe
How many paper plates can 1 tree make?
The typical tree can make about 1000 paper plates. Some trees will make more or less than this number of plates.
What is the main cause of tropical deforestation?
The main cause of tropical deforestation is mining because water is pumped through and washes all of the nutrients in the soil away just to mine metals like lead, iron, gold and copper. The forest cant grow back on this land and it leaves a horrible view of brown murky marshes.
Hope this helps!
How is tourists use of natural resources damaging the planet?
A tourist resort often brings tourists into clean natural habitats. If the resorts are not managed properly damage can be caused by:
Tourists use of natural resources
What are the disadvantages and advantages of using wood as a source of energy?
One advantage is that it's renewable. Trees can be replanted and grown to replace those that are cut.
One disadvantage is that it provides less heat energy per unit than materials like coal.
Another is that you are killing trees and causing air pollution from burning it.
How does deforestation reduce rainfall on the one hand and leads to floods on the other?
It causes floods because all the trees are gone, leaving a clear, easy to navigate path for which water can flow.
Soil is allways at stake for being eroded away by water.
Soil is mainly made up of organic material which is easily transported away by even relative small amounts of water.
One can stabilize soil by planting various crops with a lot of intertwining roots.
Grass is a good choise.
The US tried to settle a dispute on oil and gas drilling in 1997 in which of these?
Gulf of Mexico(Kaylop)
What do humans do to harm natural habitats?
Humans do many things to harm the natural environment:
They cut down trees for fuel and material, leaving many animals with loss of habitat (deforestation), leading to floods (trees have a large intake of water, and without them the ground can become saturated) and of course the greenhouse effect, which is, in the long run, flooding all of these habitats via rising sea levels.
The amount of waste materials humans produce is also enormous, Antarctica for example has been martyred for being the last great wilderness, and you can find cruise ships going there from the Caribbean! But where do they dump the waste? Not Antarctica itself, but you can find similar wildlife on many of the surrounding islands.
Leading on from Antarctica, the polar ice caps are melting, meaning a loss of habitat for all Arctic animals.
I cannot go into enough depth about water in rivers being polluted.
As cities grow and more land is used, environments are destroyed along the way.
Ever heard of DDT? Used in the 60s-70s, it is a pesticide used to kill off insects. However, it was not biodegradable (did not decay) and entered the food chain when it was washed into lakes or rivers.
Through bio-accumulation (if the bottom animal in the food chain have a little bit of poison, then the next will eat several of them and have a bit more poison) the population of major bird in Britain and Europe drastically decreased.
In Australia Cane Toads are one of the biggest problems.
What are 2 consequences of deforestation?
The consequences of deforestation are becoming greater and greater! We are losing tree's. Becoming more over populated and loosing more trees which is making the h2o in the air drop heavily. If we continue to chop down out tree's and continue to not act on the global warming crises.... i can only imagine an early end to the world as we know it. Face masks with stale oxygen to breath...Indoors at all times..and all this will lead to human extinction. In the case of human extinction the world will be unpopulated and this is where Mars comes in. I believe the quicker we venture Mars the quicker we move people to Mars( which is going to happen in the next 2 centuries) and the quicker the humanrace can reestablish out earth as it once was 300-400 years ago... even if that means UN modernizing things to make them more environmental friendly... The new generation must learn to live without littering, having all the newest gadgets, and all the resources you can imagine.
My opinion in this matter is that Al Gore would have been the best choice for American president instead of George Bush Jr.. Al Gore is a very intelligent man who has passion for the environment and i believe that if America could go back to his time... the world today would have less problems... and the problems we already had would lesser and lesser...
How fast is deforestation happening?
Deforestation is happening at on going high rate and is getting higher evry day week and month! STOP DEFORESTATION!!!!!
How do foods you eat affect your carbon footprint?
By eating different foods, we will be changing the food chain, effecting the enviornment.
What fraction of the world's plant species are found in rainforest?
Rainforests are some of the world's most ancient and complex ecosystems. They cover a mere 2% of the Earth, yet more than half of all plant and animal species live there. The rainforest is home to creatures as famous as the jaguar and poison dart frog, as well as lesser-known and even unidentified species.
there are over 20% of the worlds plants species in rainforests but also contain some of the worlds most rarest animal species as i said above.
