What side effect from the drug Depakote causes uncontrolled movement of the arms and legs?

Depakote is not known for causing that reaction, it's more common with antipsychotic medications such as Haldol. If you're experiencing uncontrolled movements, first make sure your Depakote blood level is checked to be sure it's not in the toxic range. Talk any side effects over with your doctor or pharmacist.

Why do some people go crazy when they are drunk and on depakote?

When individuals are drunk and taking Depakote, a medication used to manage seizures and mood disorders, the combination can significantly impair judgment and alter behavior. Alcohol can amplify the sedative effects of Depakote, leading to disinhibition and heightened emotional responses. Additionally, mixing alcohol with psychiatric medications can disrupt mood stabilization, potentially triggering erratic behavior or mood swings in susceptible individuals. This interaction underscores the importance of using these substances cautiously and under medical guidance.

Why does Depakote make you shake or tremble?

My wife had the symptom of shake, tremble, fall to floor, walk slowly, cannot control the urine after took Depakote for two years. I discuss with doctor to stop the use of this medicine. After stopping this medicine, all of the symptom went away.

Answer

I'm sure it all depends on what she was taking it for. I take the 500mg pill twice a day for epilepsy. I have no problems with urine but with the medication making me tired and drowsy, I have a hard time standing still in a perfect position and can't stay still on 1 foot in more than 3 to 5 seconds. Whenever I'm standing still on both legs I get feelings like I'm rocking back and forth as if I can't stay perfectly still due to the pill making me tired and drowsy.

How much does lab test for depakote level cost?

That actually depends on your insurance and your personal doctor's rates. I actually pay around $70 every 3 months to have my labs done

Is 2000mg of depakote safe for 13 year old boy who weighs 145 pounds?

There is no safe dose of Depakote (or of any other antipsychotic). These medications cause brain damage, and there is a serious risk of Tardive Diskinesia (a permanent movement disorder similar to Parkinsons) at any dose. Something like 20% of people who take antipsychotics eventually end up with this disorder, and it never goes away - they are crippled for life.

(*opinion follows*) It is immoral to give antipsychotics to children under 18. They are too young to weigh the risks and benefits and make an informed decision, and by the time they are old enough it may already be too late. Frankly, I think any psychiatrist who prescribes these drugs to kids should have their license revoked. You probably shouldn't be considering any kind of psychiatric medication unless your child has been in intensive counseling for a year without improvement.

Is 500 mlg depakote the same as 500 mlg depakote er?

No. It is not the same at all. ER is extended release, which means it the medication has special coating which controls how fast the drug is released from the pill into your body, which may allow you to take certain medications fewer times a day instead of more often.

Can depakote cause low sodiom?

It's not common. A study last month reported that of 27,713 people who had side effects with Depakote, 19 of them reported electrolyte imbalance. That's 1/14 of one percent the people who reported a side effect, which is fewer than the total people taking Depakote.

Electrolyte imbalance is normally an excess of sodium. The kidneys excrete sodium and potassium in a fixed ratio, so excess potassium results in low sodium, and excess sodium results in low potassium. Table salt contributes sodium, which is why so many people have high sodium levels.

Electrolyte imbalance is nothing to mess with; it can cause cardiac arrest. Fortunately, it responds quickly to the food you consume. If you are short of potassium, a glass of juice eliminates that washed-out feeling and fatigue in a few minutes. If you are short on sodium, licking a little bit of table salt should work nicely.
