Depression is known to get better with exercice, and meeting people... Often a depressed person withdraws from friends and family and loose intererst in training. If you can it is important that you try to follow usual routines as much as you can, eat healthy food and sleep regurlary. Especially if it is a seasonal depression getting daylight is important. In Germany St: John's worth is often used an intitial medical treatment for depressions.
I was first diagnosed with major depressive disorder about 5 years ago and then bipolar about 2 years ago. I have way more depressive episodes than i have manic episodes (which are usually periods of extreme irritability). I pretty much deal with depression on a daily basis. I have a hard time taking my medication regularly (especially since i have to take them 3 times a day) which is no no #1... if you are suffering from depression and happen to be on medication it is in your best interest to continue until your doctor tells you otherwise.... just because you feel better doesn't mean you are it means the medication is working....#2 it is more than helpful to have some one to talk to and i don't mean a friend i mean a professional... personally i feel you should have both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Your psychiatrist is there to monitor your mood and prescribe medication accordingly its a good rule of thumb to see them at least every 3 months if not more especially if you are going through an episode. a psychologist or therapist i feel is crucial! I see mine about once every week or two.... it helps so much to be able to talk things out and when suffering from depression cognitive therapy is essential... it helps change the way you perceive things... it also helps you to decipher the bad thoughts from the good thoughts... #3 go for a walk... not only does exercising release endorphins but you'll also feel better about yourself because you will eventually look better and be healthier... also being outside does wonders for depression there's something about the vitamin e (i think that's it) from the natural sunlight that just makes you feel better plus its nice to get a healthy glow from the sun instead of being pasty white sitting under florescent lights....#4 take on responsibilities and be independent... it feels good to do things on your own and be responsible... it could be anything from cleaning the house... learning how to cook for yourself... paying your own bills... or just getting out of bed and accomplishing something, anything! take a shower and get dressed! it's amazing how hard that can be sometimes but how much it makes you feel better... the key is to take one day at a time and one step at a time never overwhelm yourself... also getting a pet could be helpful because it makes you responsible for something and gives you company when you feel alone but if you're really depressed its not the best answer because animals are a lot of responsibility and need a lot of attention this is not the time to be focusing on anything but getting better and you are likely to neglect your pet believe me I've done it and its not fair to them.... #5 keep yourself busy as hard as it is sometimes participate in activities... college really helps me because it gets me out of my bed and going to class makes me feel productive because i am doing something besides sleeping... find a hobby especially something creative because its a good emotional outlet and you have something to show for it... make small daily goals for yourself like call a friend or wash your car... start off with one goal and then keep adding more... #6 if all else fails and you're still depressed especially if you have suicidal thoughts there is nothing wrong with checking yourself into psychiatric facility. I went to one for four days because my parents made me.... going into it i hated it... i felt like if i went it meant that i really was crazy but by the end of the four days i didn't want to leave... i think about going back all the time now... if it wasn't for the money and the fact that I'm in school i would go back regularly... not only is it good because you can figure out what kind of medications work best for you while being under the supervision of a doctor but you learn coping skills and do exercises that really help you get to know yourself and help you reflect on your illness... also you learn more about your illness there is always someone there to answer your questions... and you meet people who are just like you or sometimes worse... it makes you realize you are not alone in the world and it makes you appreciate your life... its just a time to do nothing but focus on you and getting better... i hope this helps some.

What are some cures for fatigue?
Resting. That is all.
According to some people, low thyroid is a major cause of fatigue. The book "Solved the Riddle of Illness" is a good book about this and there are many others. Stress can also cause tiredness as you are basically getting burned out. Another source of tiredness is low potassium. Eating refined foods can actually use more vitamins and mineral to process them than they provide. One of the major deficiencies that cause muscle weakness and tiredness is potassium deficiency.

You can still be honest without telling them the reason. Parents are all different, and have different parenting techniques- so what would work for me may not work for you. My approach would be talking to my doctor first, to find out if she/he feels you need a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Maybe even your doctor could perscribe what your body is telling you you need. Also, having a psychologist may simply be what your body needs, and your doctor could refer you to see either profession. Just tell your parents you are interested in having someone to talk to about personal matters you would prefer not to discuss with them. Your doctor also may have good ideas on how to discuss the subject with your parents (doctors are likely asked this all the time). Best of luck.

SSRIs are specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors (allowing your own body's serotonin to be utilized more efficiently), and include Celexa, Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac (with Prozac having been the first SSRI marketed - in 1987).
SNRIs are serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (Effexor, Cymbalta, Pristiq)
What should you do when you're sad?
Here are some good ideas:
Life really doesn't suck. Life has twists and turns and then there are other streets that you can take. It is how you look at it. Most people dwell on only the bad stuff that happens to them in their life and don't see the good things that happen. Even I have done that. Things get better and then it gets worse then better again.
Also because people like the guy over me ruin everything. Life can seem like it sucks if a person doesn't have enough hobbies to keep them busy. If depression continues unabated, medical help might be needed.
How long do you take an SSRI before you have to worry about withdrawal symptoms?
SSRIs are for depression and you don't have to come off it slowly because it's addictive, but it has altered your brain chemistry so you should work with your doctor and come off your medication very slowly! I have been on them in the past and you NEVER go off them cold turkey. I worked with my doctor and came off them properly and had no ill side affects. It can take 6 - 8 weeks for SSRIs to be in completely in your system and doing what it is suppose to do ... get rid of depression. Please talk to a pharmacist at least, but better yet, see your doctor. If you don't want to be on a SSRI for reasons of your own no one can force you to take them.
