HD television is captured and stored as a component signal using 20 bits. The separate bits are used in such a way that the data can store what is effectively a 30 bit signal so there is a theoretical 1 billion colors available.

HD video in the studio requires a bandwidth of 1.5Gb (1500 megabits per second) and for transmission, this needs to be compressed to signals that are around 5 - 6 megabits. In doing this compression, much of the color information can be lost so 1 billion colors are never seen on a domestic television. That is rarely a problem as our color perception means we are quite happy watching programs with much less color information.

I'm having a hard time understanding what it is you're asking. I'm pretty sure you are asking why someone would use a digital video recorder when they could use a vhs. Well the main reason is that vhs's are really crappy and i cant think of any reason why someone would want to use a vcr instead of a dvr. Most likely your clock is set incorrectly. If you told it to come on at 9 pm but it comes on at 9:15 am, then your clock needs to be set to the correct time.

Some DVRs get a time signal from the cable company or satellite. If this is the case, you need to set your time zone on the DVR. Satellites run on Coordinated Universal Time (the time on the Prime Meridian that runs through Greenwich, England). Some cable companies may also run in a different time zone, which will put your start-stop times off by an hour or more.

If you continue to have problems, turn off the Auto Time Set option and set the time manually.

Usually as long as you have it stored on your DVR, and just like a VCR, you can watch it over and over again. I have some recordings that have been stored on my DVR for over two years, and they still play. Just be sure to `protect` your recording so that the DVR doesn't record over it if the drive is close to being full.

The reason is most likely the drive is getting old or defective. It may be about to break down and die. Please make sure to back up all important documents, pictures, videos, mp3s to another drive before shutting down your computer.

I'd try something else first. It may indicate simply that the poor drive is working overtime to find things among umpteen Mb of rubbish - files are not stored in neat sequences. Turn off all open applications except the system tools (Control Panel & the file mapping). Give the disc a thorough cleaning - delete all those gash temporary Internet files, browsing history, cookies, data or application files you don't need or should never have kept anyway... Then run the disc analysis and de-fragmenting software accessible via "Control Panel" (assuming MS 'Windows'). This will find out if the disc needs de-fragmenting, and to what extent. If it does, set it running and leave it to its own devices. See if that helps - it certainly won't do any harm!
