Can you collect unemployment if just going on long term disability?

According to the Related Link below, to be eligible for unemployment you have to be available to go to work immediately with no restrictions on your ability to work (among other requirements) If the disability prevents you from doing this, then no. Also, if you qualified otherwise, the benefits would be offset by any disability benefits you receive.

Is there anyone who is Bipolar and on disability?

I do believe so. My neighbor is bipolar and she receives it

Answer: Yes you can receive Social Security for Bipolar illness. If a person has been diagnosed by a doctor, they will need to take their medical records to the local Social Security office and apply. It is NOT an easy task. You will be denied, probably several times, before/if you are approved. You will need to find an attorney that specializes in disability social security issues. That is VERY crucial. The process takes years and during that time, you will need to continuously see a doctor and keep records of all of your visits and medications taken. Your doctor will also need to fill out a form regarding his/her experiences and observations regarding your illness. Once you are approved, you will receive a lump-sum compensation check for the time that you waited for your approval (the time period between your application submission and your actual approval). You will then begin to receive monthly checks. I believe the amount of your monthly checks are based on your employment history. You will have to go before a judge several times before this process is complete.

How long do you have to have short term disability before getting pregnant?

Your policy must begin before getting pregnant. Try to start your policy at least 3 months before conception.

Most policies contain a 9 or 10 month exclusion for normal delivery. Not every pregnancy goes full term. If your policy starts 3 months before conception and you deliver early, your delivery will most likely fall outside the exclusion period - making your maternity benefit payable.

Does Minnesota offer short term disability for maternity leave?

Can you get social security disability for Atrial Fibrillation?

Social Security Administration views disability cases involving Fibromyalgia, as it views any disability case. In 2012, the Social Security Administration developed guidelines for establishing whether a person with Fibromyalgia is disabled. As with all diagnoses, Social Security benefits are not based on the diagnosis but rather the extent to which your illness prevents you from earning an income. Social Security Administration will look at your work history, inability to attend or keep a job, medical records, and statements from your doctor showing that you are no longer capable of working. Social Security Administration will evaluate the proof you and your doctors provide regarding your disability and inability to work.

Can a person collect unemployment benefits and long term disability in Pennsylvania?

Disability insurance and unemployment insurance do different things.

Disability insurance replaces your income in case you are sick or injured and unable to perform your work duties. Private companies provide this coverage in PA.

Unemployment insurance replaces your income if you lose your job. This is a state program.

If you are disabled and your employer terminates your position, you may be able to collect unemployment.

Second opinion:

No because first of all you're already getting money and second you're going back to work so they won't grant you it

Can you collect rental income and Social Security Disability?

No you cannot. You either receive one or the other. If you are eligible for SSD prior to turning age 60 and remain on SSD for 2 years or more you basically would receive in disability what you would have received at your full benefit retirement age of 66. If you stay on SSD and reach age 62 or up to age 66 and you want to convert from SSD to SSR your payment will be decreased by approximately 1/2 of 1% for each month you start taking benefits prior to age 66.

Can you collect New York State unemployment while on disability?

Legally, yes, but it may be a factor in whether you're approved for Social Security Disability (SSDI).

While the Social Security Administration doesn't prohibit people on (SSDI) disability from receiving unemployment checks, state unemployment regulations usually require all unemployment recipients to be willing and able to accept full-time work. This creates a conflict, because you're generally not eligible for Social Security disability benefits if you're capable of full-time work.

Can obtain short term disability on my own?

Finding Short Term Disability (STD) insurance on your own is fairly difficult. This is a very niche market right now and only limited carriers are offering it. Mutual of Omaha is one company that does offer individual STD, but can sometimes be a bit pricey.

When looking at individual STD, you should know that benefits may be limited. Many times, women who do not have STD offered at work will look for this type of coverage when they are thinking of having children. Individual STD will not cover normal pregnancy, or at least not any policy I've ever seen.

The easiest way of obtaining STD insurance that will cover pregnancies is to have it offered in a group setting. This does not mean that the employer will have to pay benefits. STD can be offered on a voluntary basis, as long as required participation levels are achieved.

Can you draw disability and widows benefits at the same time?

Yes, but earned income may affect the amount a survivor can receive in benefits. Because the formulas used to calculate survivors' benefits are complex and dependent on many variables, it is important to discuss the matter directly with the Social Security Administration.

Can you collect state disability from Missouri while on maternity leave?

From: http://www.social-security.net/state/Missouri/

Missouri Social Security Disability or SSI Disabilityis controlled by the federal government like all other states. Under the federal Social Security Disability Act, "disability" means the "inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physician or mental impairment which can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months or result in death."

Missouri does not have state short term disability coverage.

Can you be terminated while on long term disability?

Yes, an employee can and often will be terminated while on a Long-Term disability claim if there is indication he/she will not be returning to work. There is nothing stating or requiring an employer to keep an employee who is unable to perform the tasks required by their job description on staff.

Clearly the Long-Term disability benefits will continue regardless. However, other benefits could be lost once terminated. Check with you insurance provider for specifics on this.

Can you collect Social Security disability benefits due to substance abuse?

No. Not if your only disability is addiction.

Social Security pays benefits to people who cannot work because they have a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. Although some programs pay benefits to people with partial disability or short-term disability, Social Security does not.

Substance abuse does not qualify as a disability unless it accompanies another serious condition, as outlined in the Social Security Blue Book listing of impairments:

12.09 Substance addiction disorders: Behavioral changes or physical changes associated with the regular use of substances that affect the central nervous system.

The required level of severity for these disorders is met when the requirements in any of the following (A through I) are satisfied.

A. Organic mental disorders. Evaluate under 12.02.

B. Depressive syndrome. Evaluate under 12.04.

C. Anxiety disorders. Evaluate under 12.06.

D. Personality disorders. Evaluate under 12.08.

E. Peripheral neuropathies. Evaluate under 11.14.

F. Liver damage. Evaluate under 5.05.

G. Gastritis. Evaluate under 5.00.

H. Pancreatitis. Evaluate under 5.08.

I. Seizures. Evaluate under 11.02 or 11.03.

Can a person collect unemployment benefits in Illinois after long term disability through their employer and is able to work but lost their job?

The state you live in will not impact your eligibility to receive Disability benefits from a Long-Term disability policy. Therefore, Yes you are able to collect Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefits while receiving Social Security (SS) benefits.

To be more specific though, whether or not you actually receive benefits from your LTD policy will have everything to do with the wording in the contract. If you have group coverage through work, then it is likely that any benefits you receive from Social Security will offset the benefits payable through your LTD plan dollar-for-dollar. In this situation, even though you are able to receive LTD from your company policy, you may not actually receive any from it if you are receiving Social Security benefits equivalent or higher than the monthly benefit it provides. The same consequences apply for Federal Government employees as through the FERS program. Additionally, if you own an individual policy that has Social Insurance offset benefits, then theses benefits will also be offset dollar-for-dollar.

If you own an individual LTD policy that does not have Social Insurance benefits than you would be able to collect on Social Security benefits and 100% of the benefits provided through your LTD policy.

This is actually one of the main reasons why individual LTD coverage is much better than group coverage.
