Why do aluminum cookware turn black in dishwasher?
It may have something to do with the dishwashing powder or liquid used in the dishwasher.
Since my first question in December on why aluminum turned black in the dishwasher, I have done further research. I was using Cascade which I have used for years. I switched to Finish which is made by the same company that makes Jet Dry. I then washed a different aluminum pan in the dishwasher and it was fine.
I recently ADDED JetDry to my dishwasher--dispenser was empty for a long while. THREE aluminum pans turned black with Cascase tablets and JetDry. It's disgusting! Anyone have answers?

Can nickel bronze cutlery go in the dishwasher?
Not really. The nickel is, but "bronze" is a copper alloy. Generally, it's the reactive detergent that stains or pits the copper. You could sterilize it with the hot water after cleaning detergent residue out of your washer. Otherwise, a safe effective and inexpensive polish is a paste made from salt and vinegar. Don't get too abrasive with the salt, dissolve it in a little hot vinegar first - then dunk and rub to desired finish before rinsing and drying before restoring them. I like to rub a few drops of culinary edible oil to my cloth in the final "polish" phase before re-storage to protect the finish. Speaking of finish... Depending on the age and manufacturer, some have protective coating before anything you do would penetrate the oxidized copper in the bronze alloy mix. The great thing about salt and vinegar is NO noxious residue to consume. Best wishes! I think bronze ware is the most beautiful setting in the world. I even like it rustic and oxidated or mottled - just gorgeous, and quality pieces with a good alloy mix can last several lifetimes and counting...

Are anchor hocking glass dishwasher safe?
Many people use Anchor Hocking glass baking dishes without any problem whatsoever. But it is always wise to use common sense and never put any cold glass container directly into a hot oven.
When any glass dish has been in the refrigerator or freezer, let it sit out at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes before setting it in a preheated oven. Another way to be careful would be to place the glass dish with food into the oven before pre-heating, so the container and food heat as the oven heats. Adjust cooking time accordingly.
How do you remove dishwasher bloom off drinking glasses?
According to the book Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean by Linda Cobb, fill the dishwasher with your glasses (no metal), and place a bowl with 1 cup of bleach in the bottom of the dishwasher. Run through the wash cycle, but do not dry. Next, put 1 cup white vinegar in the bowl and run through the entire cycle. This should clean the dishwasher as well as the glasses. Hope this helps.
The damage to the glasses may not be a simple one of deposits or staining in which case the above may not work. Bloom can also (and in my belief, more likely) be caused by etching of the glass by the detergent. In this case the bloom can be removed by polishing the glass with jewellers' rouge or if that is not to hand by using a metal polish like Brasso. This can take quite a while but it works.

What is the best detergent for Frigidaire dishwashers?
Any name brand eg, Electra Sol, Galgon, etc. You must buy a detergent specially made for dishwashers. Normal detergent will froth up too much and spill out onto the floor. the secret to buying detergent is to buy the smallest box available becaus once opened oxygen contacts dishwasher detergent and makes it less effective. And even more important in places where your water is hard use Jet-Dri for spotless glasses and silverware. Also as noted above make sure the box says for dishwashers . In35 years Ihave only seen it twice that a customer put dish detergent like Dawn in the soap cup, but what a mess it made and if it should happen to you put a couple of drops of fabric softener in the soapy water and run it for a minute the soap will disapate then run a light cycle with vinegar in wash tub.
