Dodgeball is an unofficial school sport, and is often played from elementary school to high school. It is impossible to get an exact number.
Dodgeball (or Dodge-Ball) was invented in Akron, Ohio in 1897 by cousins Clarence A. Ball and Hubert Dodge, who patented the game under its first name, Clarence-Hubert the following year. Shortages of vultanized rubber following the 1902 Sino-Caledonian war meant that the pair were forced to play with a broken housebrick. It was during this era that the game, then generally known as "DeathBrick", enjoyed its golden age. By 1910 DeathBrick was played at colleges including Princeton, Yale, and the DeVry Institute, and the increasing popularity of the sport saw the formation of the National Deathbrick League in 1912 and the United Negro Deathbrick League the following year. In the prosperous years following the First World War, deathbrick became the first American sport to integrate, and in 1928 the unified leagues replaced the regulation six pound housebrick with a lighter solid latex ball. The name Dodgeball, by then genericized, was adopted at the same time. Some critics believe this marked the advent of commercialisation of dodgeball and the end of the gentleman's game. Some amateurs continue to play deathbrick with reproduction equipment, and the traditional thunk of brick on cranium continues to be heard in council estates and in bus shelters the world over.

Michael Costanza of the CPAs and Sebastian Scotti of Los Angeles are the two top players of all time, skill wise with more tournament wins and more popularity in mainstream dodgeball than anyone. See the related link for more information.
Modern Dodgeball was invented by Augustus Hagerson in Africa in 1832. The popularity of the game soared, as did the popularity of those red rubber balls found in elementary school gym closets around the world. According to a recent international poll, dodgeball is one of the most popular sports out there. It is not, however, an Olympic sport
yes if the ball hits you and it bounced off the wall or the ceiling, YOU ARE OUT.
either they can't throw, they can't Dodge, they can't catch, or they are so competitive that they immediately HATE dodgeball as soon as they get out. i know some people like that.
1 Referees will be positioned, during game play, at the center line, on one side of the court. A Referee's primary responsibility is to serve as an arbitrator for difficult calls, start and maintain game flow, ensure safety of all participants and spectators, and enforce the Sportsmanship Code.
No. While there has been discussion about adding dodge ball as an Olympics sport, it will not be played in the 2008 Olympics.
Answer 2Dodgeball will not ever be played in the Olympics because there is no single standard of play throughout the world. In the US alone there are over 5 major types of play. at least 3 in japan and the eastern world all in which vary very heavily from each other.
Also under Olympic consideration is that a sport has to illustrate longevity in popularity of play over many countries: it is not sufficient that it be merely a 3 or 5 year fad, for instance, with a diminishing following, when considered worldwide. A sport has to illustrate solid growth over a lengthy time period. Even with that having been considered in times past, there have still been many sports that have come and faded from the Olympic arena over the decades. I'm sure the committee would want to avoid such repeats in future, and be careful what sports they actually include. - Deni
you get the ball and you try to hit the opposing team with it and if u hit them there out but if they catch the ball your out. keep throwing the balls until their whole team has been eliminated
Basically just throw the balls at the other team and don't get hit.
if you get hit with the ball you are out until someone catches the ball then who ever threw the ball is out and the last person that was is back in
A friend of mine is a professional dodgeball player here in chicago. All his necessities such as vehicles, home, insurance, and living is paid for by the club. In addition, he is given around 120,000 a year for personal expenditure. This is without endorsements included.
Yes, if you do it with rubber balls in elementry school. if not, no. (why is it illegal?)
no,
It is estimated that Dodgeball started back in the Caveman Era. Where cavemen, frustrated by the sun in their eyes, hurled rocks at the sun. When they came down, some caveman would be killed while others learned to "dodge" the rocks. This carried over into the Egyptian era to where they pharaoh would hold weekly "Dodgeball tournaments". Slowly but surly it evolved into what dodgeball is today.
Dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge.
According to Patches o Houllighan, it's dodge, duck, dip, dive, and ddodge. =)
Similarly to baseball, it is a game which is determined by the scoring of runs. It has two teams, each of which is made of a pitcher and 2-3 fielders. Wiffleball is played in backyards all over the world, as well as professionally in the United States.
There are a number of games directly related to tenpin bowling, including lawn bowling (aka bowls), ninepins, duckpin bowling, candlepin bowling, and five-pin bowling.
In terms of using skills similar to bowling (releasing an object forward with an underhand swing, in order to hit a target some distance away) there are horseshoe pitching and curling, as well as the beanbag-based games Cornholeand Toss Across. (You might also include softballpitching and shuffleboard on the list.)

Dodge ball and nation ball have some serious differences. These differences make nation ball 10 times the game, at least. In nation ball when you get hit by an opponents ball or your opponent catches a ball that you have thrown, you are out. Instead of just sitting out the rest of the game, in nation ball you go to "jail". I personally have only played this game in a gym set up with a white line about 3 feet away from the out of bounds line. Between the back wall and this white line is the jail. When you get out you immediately go to jail. In jail if someone from your team throws you a ball and you catch it you are out. This is what makes nation ball a higher class game than dodge ball.
*Note* To make nation ball even more fun include smaller and harder balls in the game along with the standard kick ball/dodge ball balls. This results in faster moving balls, more pain, and of course, more fun.
There are many organizations out there with varying rules and setup however the National Dodgeball League has a thorough rule set that most independent leagues have adapted and tailored to fit their own venue and or goal restrictions/missions.
