Dog Behavior

Dogs are unable to talk just like we do, but we can still understand their feelings by observing their behavior and body language. It is compulsory that an owner is aware of his dog's body language, as it will not only strengthen their bond, but will also prevent tragic results where the owner is forced to abandon his dog due to behavior problems. In this category, there are questions relating to the different body languages of dogs, their behavior, etc.

How do you stop a dog from lunging?

This involves a lot of training. I would invest in a gentle leader this will help. Note when the dog usually lunges and put the gentle leader and leash on during those times. When the dog lunges, jerk back on the leash sharply and say "no" strictly and firmly. Continue to do so until the dog no longer lunges. If the dog doesn't lunge then award the dog with a treat or playing with it with its favorite toy. Continue to do this every time the dog lunges.

What happens if a dog eat poison?

Do dogs have a chin?

Technically, no. Dogs do not actually have a chin bone. Aside from humans, elephants are the only animal to have such a feature on their lower jaw.

While dogs do have a tip of the lower mandible (jaw) that many people call the chin, it is not strictly so from an anatomy standpoint.

Why doesn't my dog play with chew toys?

Why does my dog bark at nothing?

Your dog is communicating something. The dog hears, sees and smells better than you probably and it probably is something. My dog barks once for us to let him in. He barks when his buddies go by.

What to do when a dog bites its owner?

Warn everyone (especially children) that acknowledges your dog's presence that he/she bites and no matter how cute they look, they might bite so do not touch them. Some dogs arent as socialized with humans as other dogs, so warn people. If they get bitten, it is their fault because they were warned. I would suggest reading the book "How to Right a Dog Gone Wrong" by Pamela Dennison. It explains how to counter condition and desensitize your dog. I found it useful in dealing with aggressive dogs. If you do seek the service of a trainer be sure to use one that specializes in aggressive dogs. And be sure they use positive reinforcenent methods only. Answer == He should make sure it doesn't have an opportunity to bite anyone. Knowing that the dog bites means that you will be held totally liable if the dog bites someone else. If it cannot be kept isolated, serious consideration should be given to having it destroyed. Answer Dogs also bite out of fear, for example, if your dog is biting people that approach him when he is on a lead, he could be doing it out of fear, in which case socialization and further training will help, but please seek the advice of a proffesional, if he is lunging before somebody actually approaches him it is more likely agression.it's best to get on top of this before it has a chance to go too far. All behavior problems can be sorted out, it just need undertanding, time and hard work. Good luck.

Is it normal for your dog to poop black poop?

Of course, what comes out is about what goes in. Black is a common color, but not very healthy. I suggest switching to a more natural dog food with more nutrients

Why does your Jack Russell vomit so much?

Dogs vomit because they can. Mechanically it is easier for dogs to vomit than it is for humans so they do it more often and usually with less serious cause. Dogs vomit when they are excited, hungry, carrying for or around puppies, just drank too much water, ate something that didn't quite agree with them, and yes, also when they are sick. If the vomit appears normal, ie it is yellow, yellow and foamy, white and foamy, mostly water, or food, then it is probably okay so long as he does it occasionally (once a week or less). If he vomits often, it may indicate allergies. Consult your vet. If he vomits something abnormal, ie something dark, something that looks like coffee grounds, worms, blood, or something else you cannot identify, then he needs urgent veterinary care. If it's just yellow or foamy, then it's probably because his stomach is empty, so increase the frequency of his meals or serve a snack between meals to keep a little something in his stomach and keep it settled. If it's very watery, then he just drank a whole bunch of water. They're more likely to do that when they drink after exercise. That's not good for him, so monitor his drinking when he is hot. It's the fast drinking that usually causes it so you need to slow him down. Let him have a short drink (a few laps), then wait a minute, a short drink, wait a minute, and so on until his thirst is quenched.

How can you train your dog to use treadmill?

== == * Make this time a positive experience for your dog. Introduce the exercise experience as "play time with treats as a reward". Over time your dog will learn to trust you, his fear will diminish and your bond will become closer.Start out very slowly. Leave the treadmill out somewhere, where your dog can see it and walk by it. You walk on the treadmill for a few minutes at a time to get your dog used to the noise. When your dog comes to investigate the treadmill, give him a treat. Once he becomes used to the noise and presence of the treadmill. Put him on a leash, walk him onto the belt, have him stay for a few seconds then give him a treat. NEVER EVER TIE YOUR DOG TO THE TREADMILL! Work your way up to being able to turn the treadmill on. Then you can work your way up to speed. Consult a professional if you run into any problems. Your dog will love you for treadmill training. He can work of his excess energy and you will have a happier dog. Never leave him unattended on the treadmill. At least be in the same room. == == * If I was training a dog to use the treadmill I would first take his leash and tie it to the little bar underneath where all the buttons are ~ PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. IT IS FAR TOO DANGEROUS FOR YOUR DOG. Then of course put your dog on the treadmill and put a treat on the front piece where it doesn't move then turn it on low when he starts to get comfortable with it you could remove the leash and continue with the process. Do notreward the dog if he messes up at all or he will think its a good thing). == == * You can also use a regular adult treadmill. Put your dog on a leash, but first you get on the treadmill and start at a slow speed. Let your dog get a good idea of what it's about. Many dogs love to do almost anything a human does. On leash, put your dog on the treadmill along with you (just as if you were going for a walk outside.) For the first couple of times the dog will jump off because they can feel something moving underneath them, but be patient and before you know it your dog is running along with you just fine. Don't go too fast and ALWAYS start out very slow.

== == * You don't. He's a dog, not a human. Treadmills are for people, not pets. They're not meant for dogs (or cats, gerbils, hamsters, etc) ... having Fido use a treadmill is not only ridiculous, but also dangerous. Ask any reputable vet. It is far better to have a friend go with you for a walk and take your dog along or, go alone. Dogs need exercise like people.

== == * Treadmills are certainly in for dogs and there are even 'dog treadmills' which are only a smaller version of the human ones. These same treadmills are use for dogs with hip problems or leg problems for re physio therapy. Some people work late or have office work to do at home and some prefer to give their dog treadmill exercise during the week and then take their dog for a walk outside on the weekends. Other people hire 'dog walkers.'

How do you get a pit bull to release their jaw?

The best way i found to get my pits to lock is by getting a rope and have them get the otha end and start pullin em around. after time they will lock automatically to where you can pic them up n swing em like a helicopter. if they dont take to the rope at first then bait it with something like chicken liver blood or pigs blood.

Kaelin Mae Winkelman

NO!

First of all, PITBULLS JAWS CANNOT BE LOCKED! DUH! IT'S VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE! THE JUST HAVE REALLY STRONG JAWS FOR ALL YOU UNEDUCATED PEOPLE! RESEARCH YOUR TOPIC BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING, YOU JUST LOOK SO STUPID.

AND ALSO, 'PITBULLS' ARE NOT A CERTIFIED BREED.

Wow. what a disgusting question and a disgusting First answer. As the 2nd answer indicated, it is anatomically incorrect to say that pit bulls have "locking jaws." it's a myth. They simply have strong jaws.

SECOND of all, to the first person who answered: you should be arrested for animal cruelty. Swinging your dog like a helicopter after baiting them with a rope covered in blood? You should be ashamed. God help your poor little dog.

What necessary things should you keep in mind while keeping a dog at home?

1. Make sure you keep it away from the post because it WILL shred it to pieces.

2. If it mucks on the floor make sure you make it clear that it is not right to do that.

3. If it starts chewing on things then buy some anti-chew spray.

4. Respect its personal space. If it starts growling then stop doing what you're doing, if it snaps it will only be your fault.

5. Make sure that there is always a bowl of water from which it can drink.

6. Try not to go out for too long, especially if it's a puppy.

7. Make sure to walk it regularly (this will wear down its claws and help to burn off some energy.

8. Make sure to play with it or fuss it especially if you only have one.

That's about all I can think of. Good luck.

What can dogs eat if they are pregnant?

It's best to ask your vet. The link below says that they need fresh water, a healthy diet, and a healthy amount of food. Premium doggy food is good, but do not over feed your dog. Underfeeding is just as bad as overfeeding. You'll have to increase the amount that they normally eat since she'll be eating for more than one!

Do chihuahua poodles grow big?

It depends on the size of the parents. I would guess that it was a cross of a Toy Poodle and a Chihuahua, both of which are relatively small, making a Chihuahua-Poodle relatively small (less than 10 lbs). Please take care of your pets and I hope you adopted your dog because there is no such thing as a designer dog or a teacup dog.

How can you get a dog to stop Growling and or snapping when you go near it's new toys if they are protective of them?

That can be a tricky one to resolve. Your dog should always see you as the pack leader. This not only curbs unwanted behaviors, but also gives you dog a sense of security knowing that you are looking out for him. Don't try to take the toy away. stand facing you dog in a position that will block him escaping. Then just wait for him to give up the toy. Dogs aren't really that patient. 5 minutes tops. Once the dog has put the toy down and surrendered to you authority take it. Start making sure you dog knows that you control the food, toys and affection.

What dog breed doesn't bark a lot?

  • The only dog that cant is an African dingo.

Get huskies. They are one of the only type of dogs who do not bark, with the added advantages of awesome looks.

How many psi can dogs bite?

It would have to be the Caucasian shepherd or the English mastiff. The English mastiff has a bite force around 500psi while a pitbull only has around 250psi so don't listen to rubbish about pit bulls having the hardest bite.
