This involves a lot of training. I would invest in a gentle leader this will help. Note when the dog usually lunges and put the gentle leader and leash on during those times. When the dog lunges, jerk back on the leash sharply and say "no" strictly and firmly. Continue to do so until the dog no longer lunges. If the dog doesn't lunge then award the dog with a treat or playing with it with its favorite toy. Continue to do this every time the dog lunges.

Wow. what a disgusting question and a disgusting First answer. As the 2nd answer indicated, it is anatomically incorrect to say that pit bulls have "locking jaws." it's a myth. They simply have strong jaws.
SECOND of all, to the first person who answered: you should be arrested for animal cruelty. Swinging your dog like a helicopter after baiting them with a rope covered in blood? You should be ashamed. God help your poor little dog.

3. If it starts chewing on things then buy some anti-chew spray.

5. Make sure that there is always a bowl of water from which it can drink.
6. Try not to go out for too long, especially if it's a puppy.
7. Make sure to walk it regularly (this will wear down its claws and help to burn off some energy.
8. Make sure to play with it or fuss it especially if you only have one.
