I think it would depend on the size of the dog and how often he/ she drinks water. When I was a kid, we use to have a lab who would hold his bladder for 8 hours. I think that this is even too hard for humans I wouldn't expect my dog to do anything I couldn't do myself. I put down wee wee pads during the day and he always goes on them. When I get home I pick them up and he goes to the door when he needs to go. Some dogs will withhold from drinking water if they know they won't be able to go out to potty. One of my dogs won't drink water if it's raining because she doesn't like to go out in the rain! Your dog is just doing what dogs do.

The puppy will stop bitting at around 2 years old. Although it may never stop if you continue to allow it to do so :)

Is he eating a lot of grass? I know my dog loves to eat grass, and I have to stop him from eating too much or he starts throwing it up. Maybe he too pees green when he eats too much grass, but I don't know, I haven't been paying attention.

This is probably a learned behavior - I would suspect your dog is going after trace scents of food or something else that smells good to it. Thorough cleaning with a scent-removing product (there are several decent ones on the market) may help reduce the incidence of this behavior, but it would take dedication and training to eliminate it completely.

It would definitely be advisable to contact a veterinarian. While I wouldn't be concerned if it only happened once, repeated instances, especially over a short period of time, could be a sign of something serious. Use your best judgment. YES! Dogs can become very agitated and distressed when owners leave the home even for short periods of time. Some will whine, urinate (lose bladder control), bark, yelp, chew, scratch, etc. That is why some dog owners are better off placing their pets in cages while they are at work or out on errands.

Pets may be reluctant to caging at first, but soon get used to it. This is the best way to ensure pets do not become stressed out (and homes are not destroyed) in the absence of owners.

Nature or Nurture question. Coyotes grownup in the wild often out maneuver humans or dogs trained to run them down. From pups on, it was a matter of survival.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no peer-reviewed, double-blind studies comparing wild coyotes even to the doggie IQ scale. I grew up around them and am a 30+ year trainer. They are certainly not the dim bulb on the string. From observed behavior, probably around the Belgium Malinois (a few steps down the scale from the German Shepherd). Very clever animals.

Make sure that your new puppy will be submissive to your three year old dog. Take them to neutural grounds (like a park or a common area) to meet for the first time. The best answer is the same way you would "treat" yourself if you had a simple cold - rest and drink plenty of fluids.
