How do you train a dog to not bark when the door bell rings?
The key to training a dog to do anything is repetition. If your dog is one of the few that doesn't bark when someone knocks, don't worry. You should be able to train him or her to do so in a short amount of time.
The first thing you need to do is train your dog to speak on command. A simple way of doing this is to restrain your dog, in a safe way, of course, and call his or her name. When they get frustrated because they can't get to you, they will bark. Once they bark, you need to immediately praise him or her and give a treat. Continue this until you can get the dog to speak without being constrained.
Then, use the speak command when someone knocks at the door. You may want to get someone to help you for this part. Every time the dog barks at the knock on the door, give praise by you and your helper.
Your dog will quickly learn to bark when someone knocks.
How can you stop your 9 year old dog from eating her own feces?
This is a common behavior exhibited in canines. It is called coprophagia. Although the behavior is not generally harmful, it is oftentimes difficult to live with and gives new meaning to dog breath. There is an effective product on the market today that is in the form of a tasty, chewable tablet for dogs. This product makes the stool undesirable for dogs due to the odor of the stool. It comes highly recommended.
Why does your puppy chew wood?
Dogs and cats will generally eat grass if they have an upset stomach. If it's a puppy the dog may eat bark or bushes because they are teething. Some dogs do it just for fun and there is really no nutritional value in it. My 7 month old pup will get pieces of bark and bring it in the house and flip it around and one time he even brought in a large branch off a tree! I must admit, for such a little guy and that big job of hauling that branch in I had a good laugh over it. Marcy His tummy hurts..he is not hungry( he or she)
How do you teach your dog agility?
Start with a chair and your dog on a down. If the chair is the correct height, he will not be able to stand under it. If you have a very small dog, find something else that is just a little higher than your dog when he is lying down to work with. Lure his nose under the chair with a treat. Let him nibble the treat but do not let him have the whole thing. Say, "crawl," and slowly draw the treat forward. He will have to crawl forward in order to keep nibbling the treat. When he'll willingly crawl under the chair for a treat without being lured anymore, you can stop using the chair. If he forgets to crawl, simply go back to using the chair a few more times to remind him what "crawl" means.
How do you re-train your dog you just got to go potty outside instead of in the house?
What worked for my new dog was everytime you see your puppy "squat" or walk around and sniff, take the dog outside and sit him in the grass. If the dog has to go, he will go. Then reward your puppy with a treat. You will have to repeat this process for as long as your puppy gets use to it. Everytime they go outside, give your dog a treat. Repeat this everytime and eventually the dog will go to the door when he has to potty. If he still does it in the house, roll up a newspaper and give them a "love tap" on the buttox and set him outside again. Good Luck! ; )
Sometimes dogs purposely pee in order to get your attention. If your dog has not had its share of attention, a leak on the floor will angrilly express that they're angry at you. If you haven't taken them out for their morning walk, some piddle will explain it. Make sure that your dog has no reason to have an "accident". If they still do it, its because they probably haven't learned yet that bathroom trips are to be taken outside. Give your dog plenty of time to romp around and use the restroom in the outdoors instead of cooping them up inside and expecting them to learn. If you're busy for most of the day, leave pads in the house for your dog to use instead of having to go out on a walk. Remember: it's still good to give your dog fresh air.
But still, some dogs never become fully house-broken. I know several dogs that still can't remember to use their pads or the grass outside and have accidents after years and years of training.
How do i stop my dog from bitting?
There are a few tricks to stop this, but remember patience is key as they are just babies and not very bright yet. The easiest thing to do is give him a toy everytime he starts biting, as he could be teething and just needs to chew! Wetting and then freezing a wash cloth is very helpful (if he is just teething).
If he is biting for no other reason than just to bite than try this: when he bites you grab his muzzle (gently!) and say no bites, or whatever you want to use, and release but keep your hand near his mouth. He will probably bite again but continue this until he finally stops biting and licks. Always praise him when he licks, even if he bites right after, at least he sort of gets it! Good luck, it takes some time just be patient and consistent - with this and all other training!

Can dogs bark with their mouth closed?
yes, dogs do that all the time!! ,they also bark with a toy in their mouth or while eating or drinking, but not all dogs can do this....but the bark is not as loud as it would be if the dog did not have a empty or open mouth
Not all dogs sleep under beds but if you have observed a particular dog doing so it is likely because the dog feels safe there. Canines in the wild live in dens so being under something when they are sleeping can make them feel safe.
How do you punish a puppy if he does something wrong?
well depending on what the puppy did you should never neglect or abuse the dog just teach him a lesson that you think would work =] say in a calm but harsh voice and say no..... and repeat it over and over intill he gets it then walk away and say no more to your dog and if that does not work do not hit or put your dog outside when you say no to him make sure he is looking at you in the eyes to make sure he is getting the message i hope this helps you! -------------------000000000000000-------------------- Don't get excited, hold eye contact speak quietly, sternly and clipped, use single short words 'no', 'bad' etc. Emphasize by pointing finger, or an away motion (like you are shutting a door) with flat hand. Then walk away and ignore the puppy for a short time, do not be tempted into play. You choose when the puppy is forgiven. Only reward and make a fuss of a 'good boy/girl' keep your voice light and be prepared to play. The more you play with the puppy, reward and praise good behaviour, the more effective your chastizement of it will be. The puppy will quickly learn the most important lesson of all, it will know it's 'place' in the family pack.

Do search and rescue dogs find lost cats?
No, not on a general basis. They are trained to find people, but will follow any scent indicated by their handler. Occasionally handlers are willing to aid in the search for missing pets, but that is up to each individual and is not a requirement of search and rescue dogs.
Other contributors have said: No, not on a general basis. They are trained to find people, but every so often if they find a dog/cat that's alive they will save them too.

Are guide dogs trained to disobey commands that would endanger their owners?
Answer === ===
Guide dogs are trained in or selected for, "intelligent disobedience." If the owner gives the dog a "forward" command and obeying that command would mean stepping in front of a moving car, the dog will not move forward. It is then up to the handler to figure out why. If the handler decides the dog has made a mistake, he can override the dog. In the end it is always the human handler's choice to act on the dog's advice, but yes, they do disobey certain commands in certain situations.
How do you get a dog to not follow you all around the house and act like a fool when you are gone?
It depends on how old the dog is. If it is young it is very easy to mold it's mind, if it is old, it will be very difficult as it is already set in its ways. A good way to do it is to say their name before the command, and say it firmly. Dont yell at them, or sound angry, but say it like you mean business. If they do it, offer them a treat, or give them a lot of quick, positive attention. Repeat this as often as possible so that they know what to do when you say that specific command. If they don't follow, you can just repeat the command. If they're doing something bad and you catch them in the act, you can take a small spray bottle and give them a little squirt and say bad *name* or bad dog, once again, not angrily, but firmly. They don't like this, so they learn from their actions. Trust me, this is way better than punishing them by putting them in their kennel or box, and hitting is never the answer, that will just make a mean dog.
2nd Answer:
Take your dog to a local Dog Obedience class so you both can learn. Purchase a 6 foot leather lead along with a choke chain. Measure around your dog's neck and add 2 inches to get the correct size of the choke chain. Check with your Veterinarian or local Animal Shelter or nearest feed store or local newspaper for the nearest dog obedience class. This will help you and your dog immensely. Using your lead with your choke chain is what gets their attention and makes them mind but you need someone to show you all of this and be with other dogs to help socialize him or her.
How do you stop puppies from eating poop?
Coprophagia is the act of eating feces (poop). Dogs may eat their own poop, the poop of other dogs, or the poop of other animals, such as poop in a litter box. They may do it because they were raised in dirty conditions, such as a puppy mill, because they were removed from their mother too soon, because they are missing nutrients or ill, or simply because they like to.
First rule out a medical cause. If your dog is not receiving proper nutrition he can start eating poop to try to meet any deficiency. A disease called Endocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) can cause a dog to not metabolize his food properly, even if you feed a high quality diet. If your dog is a German Shepherd and the poop he makes is of an unusual texture, color, or is diarhea, and if he has difficulty keeping weight on, suspect EPI and get a vet evaluation. There may be other diseases that cause a dog to eat poop, so regardless of whether you suspect EPI, discuss this problem with your vet to rule out a medical cause.
If it is a bad habit, with no medical cause, you must start first with prevention. There are food additives you can put in the food of the dog whose poop is being eaten. It does not work by feeding it to the dog that eats the poop unless he only eats his own poop. So if you have multiple dogs, you will probably have to treat all of them. One such product is "Forbid," which is available at most pet stores. Your vet may have other products to recommend.
When you take your dog out to toilet, watch closely. If he goes for his poop, so "No!" sharply (or "leave it"). Hold the leash so that he can't quite reach the poop no matter how he tries. When he stops trying, praise and reward, then immediately scoop the poop up. This is a tough issue to fix, so be determined. It may take a few months, but it can be done.
