My Neighbors And The Dogs From Hell!

We had been having trouble for months with our neighbors and their dogs. The dogs will bark all day and all night and it does not seem to bother them.

First, teach him to sit. Gently take hold of his paw while saying, "paw," or "shake." Choose the command that works best for you. While holding the paw, give him a treat. Repeat this several times until he is comfortable letting you hold his paw for 30 seconds or more. The next step is to get him to offer his paw instead of waiting for you to pick it up. Hold out your hand as if you are about to take his paw, and give his command. If he raises his paw, go ahead and take it and give him a reward. Well, it's kind of disgusting to say, but they do it pretty much the same way we do it, except they go outside, if we're lucky. They just go outside, then, if it's a boy, lift up it's leg and let a stream of pee out. Basically the same with girls, but, they just squat.

Then, say Lay Down "Sable" and if it doesn't work show it a treat or bone and then say it ones more, then if the dog still won't give it some rest for 20min. come back and try again. When you are done with Laying down, Give it a Pat ot a Treat and say Good Girl/Boy "Sable". Then you can do the same with These steps. > Kidergarten: Lay down, Sit, Bark. This could be for several reasons. First, if your dog has not peed on the carpet before but is starting to now, I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian to check for a urinary tract infection. The irritation caused by a urinary tract infection can cause a normally house-trained dog to squat and urinate frequently throughout the day.

Second, if your dog has not peed on the carpet and you've recently had a major change in the household (moved to a new place, wedding, divorce, new kid, kid leaving for college), this could be a sign of stress. Keep a close eye on your dog for the next few weeks and reassure him/her that his/her schedule will still be there.

Third, if your dog has always peed on the carpet, this is likely a learned behavior - I would suggest talking to a dog trainer about how to retrain your dog to urinate outside.

I have an adoreable dachsund/shih tzu mix and he used to have a real problem with licking. I learned that when a dog is licking you and you want them to stop, take a step back, just out of reach of the dog, saying firmly (never meanly) a word that you will say when you want them to stop like, "That's enough", or "No more". Then step back to your dog. If the dog continues, repeat. After so long, if the dog does not stop after a good amount of repititions (it will also depend on how long you can stay patient), leave the situation. The dog will learn that when it licks you, you say a word, it needs to stop. The dog will learn you will not tolerate disobediance.
