During WW2 and the Korean War, GEN MacArthur was an American Hero, furnished with ticker tape parades, and was requested by the population to run for the US Presidential Office. He was paraded thru the major cities of the US after WW2, and paraded again after being relieved of command during the Korean War. Always being treated as a hero, even after being fired (relieved of command). One of his greatest speeches was at West Point: "...An old soldier never dies, he just fades away..."

The invasion was at Incheon (or Inchon) in Korea.

On 15th September, 1950, MacArthur landed American and South Korean marines at Inchon, 200 miles behind the North Korean lines. The following day he launched a counterattack on the North Koreans. When they retreated, MacArthur's forces carried the war northwards, reaching the Yalu River, the frontier between Korea and China on 24th October, 1950.

During World War 2, General Douglas MacArthur developed the strategy of island hopping. He would capture certain islands. The Americans would use those islands to get closer to their goal. He would leave Japanese troops on the other islands. He would not waste American lives trying to capture those islands. The objective was to get close enough to Japan to establish bomber bases capable of dropping bombs on Japan.

The fight for the freedom of the Philippines from Japanese invasion. The American evacuation of the Philippines was the result of Japan's aggression in East Asia. General MacArthur would keep his promise and did return. Before this happened there was a top secret meeting between President Roosevelt, MacArthur, and Admiral Nimitz. MacArthur talked the president to retake the Philippines instead of attacking Formosa.

Douglas MacArthur was relieved of his command in the pacific by president Harry Truman because of his failures in the first two of the three phases of the Korean war, the first in trying to hold the communists at the 38th paralel (the border between North and South Korea), and then in trying to push the communist Chinese forces out of Korea, which he thought he had nearly done when he push them to the China- North Korean border, but in reality, the communists were withdrawing and ammasing their forces on the border, and when the UN troops were spread out thinly across all of Korea, they struck, pushing the UN forces all the way back to the 38th paralel and a little beyond.

Mcarthur also wanted to attack China (as they were sending troops to assist the North Koreans in return for their assistance during the Chinese civil war which took place during World War 2, which the communists won), using Chinese nationalist troops (the democratic Chinese forces left over from the civil war, which they had lost) to augment UN forces in a full out assault on China, after which he wanted to drop 30 to 50 nuclear bombs along the neck of Manchuria (the section of China that borders Korea), the prupose of which would be to turn the China- North Korea border into an impassable, "radioactive no man's land for sixty years".

This plan was not the reason for Mcarthurs' being removed from his command, though it probably pushed Truman to the decision, as a poll back in America had shown that the majority of the population did not favor an all out war with China.

He did not think they would react as the UN soldiers approached the North Korean border with China. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers counterattacked the UN troops, pushing them back to the border with South Korea. He totally misjudged Chinese response to the UN soldiers a few miles from their borders.

mac was named commander of the southwest pacific theater and lead the army's attack on the island base's of japan, mac was named as commander of the invasion of japan if that would have come to pass. he lead the us troops into Tokyo bay when the Japaneses surrendered in 1945. afterwards he was the leader of the us forces in japan after the war. mac died in 1964 at the age of 84

Many Americans regarded General MacArthur as a war hero after President Truman relieved him of his duties in the Korean War. He was given a hero's welcome back in the USA. This included a ticker tape parade in New York City. Much of his respect was due also to his victory in WW 2, but also for being aggressive in the Korean War. Truman had every right to fire MacArthur however.

President Truman relieved General Douglas MacArthur of his command of US forces in Korea in April, 1951. Truman later explained his actions as a desire to avoid expanding the war beyond Korea's borders and possibly starting a Third World War. This strategy of "limited war" was adopted in the United States during the Cold War.
