What terrestrial worlds have thin or no atmosphere?

Mercury has virtually no atmosphere. Mars has an atmosphere that is much thinner than Earth's, but still thick enough for wind to be important in shaping its surface.

When was Pluto downgraded from a plant?

Pluto was officially 'downgraded' to minor planet status on September 13, 2006. It was deemed that Pluto was actually part of the Kuiper belt - and not part of our solar system.

What is bigger than Pluto but smaller than Mars?

Both Earth's moon and Mercury are larger than Pluto yet smaller than Mars.

Are there any future plans for Pluto?

There are no confirmed future plans for exploration or missions to Pluto at the moment. However, scientists are always studying and analyzing data from previous missions, such as the New Horizons spacecraft, to learn more about the dwarf planet and its system. It is possible that future missions may be planned to further investigate Pluto and its moons.

Can Pluto float in water?

No, Pluto is a dwarf planet made primarily of rock and ice, so it would not float in water. The density of Pluto is much higher than that of water, so it would sink if it were placed in a body of water.

Who was the person that discovered plutos moons?

the person that discovered it was james christy on june 22nd 1978

Why is it difficult to classify a celestial body as a dwarf planet?

It isn't, really; it's just that the "dwarf planet" classification is pretty new, having been defined in 2006.

However, a "dwarf planet" must be massive enough that it is crushed into a spherical shape by its own gravity, and must orbit a star rather than another planet. But it has NOT "cleared its orbit" of other objects; if that criterion were true, then it would be a "planet".

Any new bodies matching that description are likely to be in the Kuiper Belt, which is quite distant from Earth. It's likely that we'll need a new generation of orbital telescopes to discover them.

Would a human being choke on Pluto's atmosphere?

Pluto has no atmosphere. A human without protection would probably freeze to death before they suffocated.

Why is Pluto different from the other planets?

Since it was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, many astronomers have felt uneasy about Pluto being called a "planet" for three reasons: (a) Pluto, with a diameter of 2275 km, is very much smaller than any of the other planets of the Solar System; in fact, it is only about two-thirds the size of our Moon. (b) Its highly elongated orbit is greatly tilted at a sharp angle to the orbital planeof the other planets; in other words, all the other planets revolve around the Sun at almost the same plane. (c) Furthermore, it is the only planet with an orbit that intrudes to the orbit of another planet (that of Neptune).

The other outer planets are very large and gaseous. Pluto is very small, and doesn't have as much gas.

What is the relative size of Russia?

Russia has a total area of 17,075,200 kilometers. Russia makes up about one-eighth of the world's land surface. Compared to the United States, Russia is 1.75 times bigger.

Length of year of Pluto?

Pluto has an orbital period that is equal to 90,588 Earth days. As such, one year on Pluto is equal to about 248 years here in Earth.

How long is the path of Pluto?

Pluto takes 248 Earth years to orbit the Sun.

Who took away Pluto's planet ship?

In 2006, the International Astronomical Union redefined the criteria for what constitutes a planet and reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet. This decision was influenced by new discoveries of similar-sized objects in the outer solar system and refined definitions of what characteristics a planet should possess.

How are Pluto and Mars the same?

Pluto and Mars are the same in the following ways:

  1. They both orbit the sun
  2. They are both ball-shaped

Who is daequan nix?

Daequan "Hootiie" Nix was a loving boy who got shot and killed. He is survived by his mother Renee Vail and his sister BreAna Nix. He was born on March 1, 1995 and died on July 15, 2010. He went to Indianola Math Science and Technology Middle School and attended Brookhaven High School where he played football and ran track.

Daequan Nix was found lying in front of a home in the 1400 block of North Fourth Street at about 11:40 p.m. on a Wednesday. A teen was arrested early Saturday and accused of fatally shooting another teenage boy. Police said they arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly shooting Daequan Nix, 15. Malyk Shelby pulled the trigger, police said.

Nix's mother told 10TV News that the shooting stemmed from a fight over a girl.

"That was my baby. My youngest," said Nix's mother, Renee Vail. "Can't bring his life back so they probably need to be locked up for a long, long time. Forever." Shelby's mother, Kimyatta Smith, said she wanted the Nix family to know she was sorry. Smith said her son told her he was no where near the area when the shooting happened.

"He just said 'mom, I never did it, I wasn't outside," Smith said. "I just want to get to the bottom of it. I want his family to know that my heart goes out to them."

Vail said she accepts Smith's apology.

"I accept her apology," Vail said. "It's not her fault and these teenagers are just making bad decisions."

Friends and family held a candlelight vigil in his honor on Sunday, July 18.

How long will it take to get to Pluto from earth going 65 miles an hour?

Spacecraft never travel in straight lines. But let's say you could.

The closest that Pluto can ever be to the earth is about 3.577 billion miles.

At 65 miles per hour in a straight line, you're talking 6,278 years! (rounded)

Be sure to take enough bottled water, M & Ms, and reading material for the trip.
