Why might a person become anorexic?

Its because of either the physical or mental abuse they had gone through. I'm an anorexic binge purge sub type. I have both the illness of a bulimic and an anorexic. I am this because relatively, bulimics are not underweight. That's where anorexia comes in. But because of the self loathe and public loathe that the only way to feel accepted is to do whatever it takes to be the skinniest person there. It's not really ALL choice. It does take over your body and recovery will be harder. Fix it the sooner the better

How long do you have to be anorexic to start losing weight?

Being completely anorexic will actually cause the starvation response to kick in, slowing down your progress.

The main reason for fat loss should be for health reasons. People who are anorexic look very thin, unhealthy and thus unattractive. Being anorexic will also cause social problems.
For improved health, improved physical appearance, mental health and social interactions, it is best to approach fat loss in a holistic manner. Do not try to make drastic changes.

Don't try to starve yourself. Start first by adding green vegetables (for example microwave frozen vegetables). Eventually replace all high fat and high sugar foods with lower calorie ones. For example, replace fries with baked potatoes, then with broccoli, etc. If you like candy, take a sweet apple instead. For a sweeter choice try grapes or ripe bananas. These foods may not seem as sweet or delicate at first, but this changes over time, and you will grow to like them much more as they will give you more energy and you will not have a bloated feeling afterward.
Many advocate increasing protein intake. This is fine, but do not go to a high fat high protein diet.

The MAIN key is to make lifestyle changes for the rest of your life. Don't try to speed things along. Eat right, exercise and the good changes will come into your life much sooner than you expect.

What percentage of girls have anorexia?

Anorexia effects both genders. However, 90% of women are targeted with the illness. So this means for every 200 women, 1 in 6 are anorexic and unfortunately up to 20% of these women will die of this disorder. 2 -3% get treatment, nevertheless, they still die from anorexia. In the United States 3% of all young women and girls are anorexic and 3-4% of women in the US suffer from bulimia. Overall, in the Us 24 million either binge eat, are bulimic or are anorexic. 86% of people who suffer from anorexia were effected by the disease before the age of 20.

What percentage of models have anorexia?

Unfortunately, too many to count. However, what it more disturbing than the number of models suffering from this condition is the number of young women and even men that are not models that are currently battling anorexia.

At this time, there is no exact number that represents the number of models that have anorexia.

How much food do anorexic people eat every day?

It varies in each individual that is Anorexic. There are few calories and Anorexics prefer to stick with very small portions of lettuce, a few vegetable or fruits, but even that becomes distasteful for them given time. They are literally starving themselves to death. If they don't receive counseling and help with their eating habits they will eventually die because their organs start to shut-down. Heart attacks are also high with chronic Anorexics.

Answer:It just depends on the severity of the disorder. Some less severe cases will be fine with around 800 a day, as long as they are losing weight. Usually the range is between 0-500. But until the individual receives counseling and help, or as long as nobody knows, they will continue to restrict their calories more and more. I've heard of people setting 400 calories a day as their goal...and they really try their hardest to NOT meet that goal. that goal is really just for "only in very worst circumstances". the least amount of calories the better. and sometimes they will go days without consuming any calories whatsoever.

Should you take a laxative before you eat or after?

Save for the fact the person below is quite right, they are also quite wrong. Laxatives do cause you to lose weight after taking them in excess for a long period of time. At first, laxatives keep the body from absorbing water by coating the GI tract and the stomach. After excessive use, however, laxatives coat these organs enough to keep the body from absorbing fat, but only a little, as food is alrady broken down by the time it gets to one's GI.

  • Actually what really happens, is that it does not work at all. Go to anred.com. Once the food gets to your GI tract system food is already broken down. Laxatives just get rid of excess water weight by forcing you to have more frequent bowel movements. Its false weight loss.
  • = Laxatives Unsafe and Ineffective For Weight Reduction: =
    • Most of the weight lost is water loss, not fat loss.
    • By speeding up the digestive process, laxatives can reduce the absorption of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients and leave the individual weak and dehydrated.
    • Long-term use of laxatives upsets the mechanism of the colon. This can make the individual dependent on laxative pills for regular bowel movements. (Colon-cleansing does not cure this problem.) Colon problems will eventually become a future problem for individuals who persist on misusing them.

Will you get sick if you drink eggs?

It gives a person protein, which helps give them more energy, especially when one is going to work out. most protein powders for shakes is made of eggs.

HOWEVER, raw eggs can contain salmonella, which can cause digestive symptoms like diarrhea. In early 2010, eggs in the USA had to be recalled due to this contamination.

How much do anorexic people exercise?

Surprisingly many anorexics don't exercise at all. They focus on losing weight mainly by restricting food. However, some anorexics due exercise, though the amount depends entirely on the person.

Why do people develop eating disorders?

  • Low self esteem and poor body images. Media plays a part, but you must have self esteem to not compare yourself to anyone on TV. You are unique in your own way. Eating healthy and exercising should be for your health and not because of how you want to be perceived.
  • Eating disorders are caused by either low self esteem and in many cases the person with the eating disorder feels they have no control over their life, but the one fact they know they have control over is no one can make them eat. Some young women are swayed by the media as to what they feel they should look like. Teen magazines, movies, etc., all play a role in brain washing young people to simply make money off them such as being super thin so they can buy the clothing that an actress may be trying to sell, etc. Medical scientists are still trying to find out what it is in the brain where the person with an eating disorder is stimulated to do so and why they see themselves in the mirror as being too fat. You hardly hear of someone saying they are too skinny.

actually, quite a lot of "naturally" thin women would die for curves. People just don't want to look bad in other people's eyes

How many people in the UK suffer with an eating disorder?

There is no accurate way to know for sure, but it is know that around 800,000 people (just under) may suffer with eating disorders in general. The statistic states that 40% have bulimia, 10% have anorexia and the other 50% have EDNOS or an unspecified or unknown eating disorder. Adding some maths to that, we can probably estimate that there'll be roughly 320,000 bulimia sufferers in the UK.

How much weight do you lose when you starve yourself?

There are approximately 3500 Calories in a pound. How many pounds you lose by starving yourself depends on your basal metabolic rate, or BMR (how many Calories you burn while at rest) and how many calories you burn through activity. Most people's BMR is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 Calories. Add in daily activity and you get your 2000 Calorie-based diet recommended by the USDA, FDA etc. Therefore, it will take most people about 2 days of not eating to lose one pound. Skipping a single meal won't do much for you if weightloss is the ultimate goal. Skipping meals lowers blood sugar and reduces metabolism, which will actually slow down the entire process. In addition, the weight you loose will not all be from fat, but also muscle tissue, skin, blood and even bone matter. This is because of the fact that as your body can't receive the essential nutrients it needs to survive from food, it will extract them wherever it can find them. So be sure to eat! Your body needs protein, starch, fat, calcium, folic acid, vitamins, minerals and much more simply to sustain life. As any one of these becomes depleted from your diet, your body looses some of its functions and, depending on the level of deprivation, you can even die. This is why it is very important to have a balanced, consistant diet with fruits and vegetables.

What if you only throw up every now and then and have been skipping lunch or dinner or both does that mean you have an eating disorder?

AnswerNO, though one meal a day is definitely not enough, and throwing up after eating is not good. This COULD develop into a) anorexia or b) bulimia. You need to get help now, before it gets really bad and you will not be able to stop as easily. AnswerThe eating disorder you have is called bulimia and it can seriously damage your body. Find someone who can help you develop a healthy relationship with food. AnswerI've had this for about 4 months now, and i think i have bulimia. So if I eat only 1 meal a day and snacks, then i exercise hardcore and throw up every single thing I have eaten, does that mean i have eaten 0 calories? and how come the size of my body is becoming insanely smaller but my weight is not shifting?

Answer:

Actually its NOT Bulimia Nervosa that you have- if you have an eating disorder at all. You cannot be diagnosed via the internet, you will need to be evaluated by a mental health professional. However, if you are not binging, just eating small amounts of food and purging it (both by vomiting and exercise) this is a sub-clinical eating disorder called Eating Disorder Not Otherwise specified or EDNOS. Since this has only been 4 months I would say you fall into this category because you are just developing the symptoms of an Eating disorder and its not yet full blown. EDNOS is still very very serious and deadly if you allow it to continue, it is as serious as having anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder..

I suggest you talk to your family doctor or nurse at your school/free clinic/etc about this. Hospitalization/treatment center is not needed at this point so you don't have to worry about being 'locked up'. In order to stop this now and not let it become a more serious problem, you may want to seek counseling to determine why these symptoms are now showing themselves, and to help you find better ways to cope with life/stresses/etc. I can honestly say if you do the work in therapy it IS possible to recover!

The answer to this would be around 10% die of those who were Diagnosed. The suicide rate is higher then this, meaning it is more likely they will commit or attempt to commit suicide from it, then die from it. As for those getting treatment, less then half fully recover, and about 20% stay anorexic. This was all found at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa#Prognosis] Hope this helps.

What is iron deficient erythropoiesis?

It means that you should be getting more iron in your diet.

The human body conserves iron by recycling iron from old red blood cells to make hemoglobin for new red blood cells. However, a constant intake of new iron is required for optimum health.

Low iron levels may be caused by inadequate intake, by poor absorption, by parasites within the body, or by medical conditions that cause undiagnosed internal bleeding (polyps, ulcers). Those who give blood, or women who have excessive menstrual bleeding, or women who are pregnant or lactating may develop iron deficiency. There are also some medical conditions that prevent proper absorption of iron. Untreated, deficiency can lead to anemia.

Anemia is characterized by under-developed red blood cells that lack sufficient hemoglobin, reducing their oxygen-carrying capacity.

Symptoms of iron deficiency may include :

fatigue

loss of stamina

susceptibility to infections

hair loss

dizziness

headaches

brittle nails

decreased mental concentration, apathy, or depression.

* Iron deficiency in children is associated with learning disabilities and lower IQs.

An unusual neurological reaction to low iron is the behavioral abnormality called pica. Sufferers have subconscious cravings and will consume unsuitable materials such as dirt, clay, laundry starch, charcoal, paint chips, and other non-nutritive substances.

What factors may contribute to an eating disorder?

People with an eating disorder spend all of their time thinking about food and their weight. They do not socialize. They do not develop their social skills or learn how to deal with the opposite gender. They get off into a corner by themselves and they do not develop. All they have left is the eating disorder.
