Most likely culprit is corrosion on oen side of the window rocker switch in the door. Rain likely has gotten onto the switch enough times that corrosion resulted in a high resistance on at least one side of the window rocker control switch - the one that you push to raise the windows.

If one presses and holds the 'unlock' plipper the windows will wind down. I have had this occur a couple of times when I have been working on my other car - the Audi keys were in my trouser pocket and the button must somehow have been pressed and held as I bent over.

I had a similar problem with my Honda Accord coupe - it could hear squeaking sounds whenever I drove over bumpy roads. I stopped by a repair center to get it fixed and the repair man said it wasn't a problem with the window, but a problem with the rubber lining between the door and the car body. He said it usually happens when you get dirt or dust in between or in cold weather when there's a gap between the door and car body.

I bought a spray-type silicon lubricant for about $4 at an auto part shop - mine said it doesn't damage rubber and works well for squeaking windows. Get a cloth or paper towels and spray enough of the lubricant onto it and rub it over the rubber lining on the door and the car body. The cloth should get really dirty the first time, so clean the dirt off the entire lining once and use another cloth to apply the lubricant. You don't want to apply too much so that it trickles down, but still apply it several times constantly spraying lubricant on the cloth so the lining gets pretty shining. I had to apply it several times on the entire lining to make the squeaking go away, but it finally worked and I'm happy that I don't need to hear the annoying sound anymore.

A: One of the first British jets began to crash for no reason. This airplane, the Comet, had large square windows. The investigation discovered that the airplane cracked open at the corners of the windows. This was about the time that engineers began to understand the phenomna of Fatigue. Their tests showed that the corners of the windows resulted in higher stresses and it fatigued the metal. They redeisgned the windows to be rounded and it reduced the stresses and no more planes crashed. Sharp corners in holes of any surface that is carrying a load will increase the stresses. If the corner is changed to a curved edge, then the stresses are lowered. Think of stress as a flow of forces and when it comes to a sharp corner, the flow can't go around the corner.

Slip something thin (putty knife) between the switch plate and the door panel. Slowly twist and pry up while tugging up on the switch assembly and it will pop out. Don't use a screwdriver and just twist, you could crack the switch plate. There's enough wire to pull out the switch a few inches. Disconnect the connectors (small screwdriver to depress the catch) and the switch is out. No screws and no need to remove the door panel, it's just popped in!

I'm working on the same problem on my 94 F150..went to U tube and found how to remove door panel and "window regulator". While replacing the window regulator would probably solve my problem I think there is a simpler answer since my motor works and I can get the window to jog up a little if I work at it then I can grab it and assist it up by pulling up and using up switch. I'm going to pull the panel and see what is going on. Check out U-Tube

usually this is the master switch in the centre console acting up. Could also be a motor or regulator but try another switch first.

I have a 1988 BMW 325I and the power windows stopped working all of a sudden after a starter was replaced. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem, i can find all the other fuses except the windows one. Mine are not working so im assuming its either the fuse or the motor. But it would help if i could find the fuse lol! I'm just about to cut some plastic up to put over the window cause its starting to rain! im sorry this isn't an answer but just in case you found out can you please keep me updated via this ! :]

Your switch could be worn out you would have to replace the rocker to the switch or replace the whole window switch console.

No, the childproof lock disables the inside door handle so the rear seat passengers can't open their door. Someone else must open the door to let them out using the outside handle. The control for the childproof lock is usually on the edge of door and is only accessible when the door is open. The power window lock just prevents the passengers opening the windows. They both should be used together to be the most effective
