Does hyperthyroidism cause flu like body pain?
Hi,
Yes it does. My most irritating symptom is severe back and neck pain. Other symptoms are sweating, racing heart, hand tremors , diarrhea and fatigue. I knew that it was not the flu because of the irregular heart beat and the hand tremors, but for me the pain was very bothersome until I was treated for the hyperthyroidism. Hope that helps.
Why is the thyroid gland considered to be an endocrine organ?
Both types of reproductive organs produce hormones in addition to the production of ovum and sperm, respectively. The testes produce testosterone, and the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone. Such hormones are responsible for control and onset of conception and the growth of offspring.
The endocrine system is a vital human organ system. In that sense, the endocrine system is good.

I certainly wouldn't think so. When something occurs in the front of the neck, and lymph gland reaction will be limited to the front of the neck. In the posterior neck, there are lymph glands there as well, but this "hard lump" could also be a sebaceous cyst. "Hard lump" is not usually heard from a patient, and I would be concerned and want to know if there are other "hard lumps", such as under the arms, and in the groin (and actually get to examine them). If there are multiple "hard lumps", I would strongly suggest you see a physician and let him determine the cause. There are many "innocent" reasons for swollen lymph glands (if that is what this is), but there are some not-so-innocent things that could cause that as well...

What relation between puberty and thyroid gland enlargement?
for most of the girls during their puberty, they may have to fight with the thyroid disturbances. This is a natural phenomenon but these disturbances last for only a very short period may be till the first menstruation cycle or two. There might occur some irregularities in growth and physical appearances. They are not to be worried. In some extreme cases, the thyroid secretion may be in higher limits or might be in a minimal quantity than the required optimal amounts. This can lead to various psychological disturbances as well like depression, or any kind of change in the emotional feelings, loss of appetite, and feeling of a loss of mental strength. These might occur along with the other common thyroid imbalance symptoms like hair loss, dryness of the skin etc. These can be however rectified easily by supplementing the diet with iodine rich foods.

Is the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone blood test the only way to diagnose hypothyroidism?
Absolutely not. It is the one medical doctors have relied on for years. The problem with tsh levels is that what is a "normal" value may not be normal for you and me. T4 levels along with free T3 and freeT4 levels gives a much clearer picture
I was finally diagnosed properly, but even when when my tsh looked normal, the actual circulating "available" thyroid proteins were not adequate. tsh is not made by the thyroid gland. it is made by the pituitary and is simply an indicator of how the body is responding.
What is the medical term meaning overactive thyroid?
Hyperthyroidism is the medical term meaning overactive thyroid.
Yes! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's last year after some blood tests were run by my endocrinologist. My mother has hypothyroiditis, so I have inherited that gene unfortunately. For years I have been overweight, and I've always blamed my cravings for carbs. About three years ago, however, I lost 30 lbs in about a month. It was a miracle for me! People noticed me, and I felt my spirit, mood, and general outlook on life had improved. Sadly, I've gained all the weight back and then some. Now I am taking levothyroxine, a drug that is supposed to help my hormones balance out and get me back into a healthier lifestyle. So I suppose my story is the reverse of yours.
What could cause a low body temperature if thyroid tests came out okay and you are very active?
Body temperature is controlled by the Pituitary gland. It's a small, almond sized structure at the base of the brain that controls body temperature, blood pressure and controls the function of many other glands such as thyroid. It could just be that your Pituitary has a lower set point and that's just your normal temperature. It might be something to investigate next time you go to your doctor. Also, get a blood glucose meter and check your blood sugar level before and after eating a high carb snack. If it drops dramatically afterwards, you may very well be hypoglycemic... Low body temp and normal thyroid test may also indicate Wilson's Temperature Syndrome, where the body is making enough Thyroid hormone, but the cells are not converting it properly.
