Ellen Church (September 22, 1904 - August 22, 1965) was the first airline stewardess (flight attendant). Church was a pilot and a nurse. Boeing Air Transit (the predecessor to United Airlines) wouldn't hire her as a pilot, but did take her suggestion to hire nurses as stewardesses in order to calm passengers' fear of flight. She believed that a flight attendant would help convince people that flying is safe. Church was hired in 1930 as head stewardess and was put in charge of hiring.

Do Commercial Cargo Freighter aircrafts airliners have Cabin Crew?

Cabin crews perform their duty in the cabin. Typically there is no cabin in cargo aircraft. Cabin area is replaced by main deck and no passenger to service. I don't think airline will assign cabin crew to follow flight to serve pilots and license aircraft engineer (if any) onboard.

Cabin crew is a glamorous job do you agree?

Jobs which appear "glamorous" frequently are not. Cabin crew falls in this category. Basically these people are exceptionally hard working, work difficult shift patterns, are very unsocial as they do have to spend time away from family and friends especially those on long haul. The role in basic is a waiter/waitress with retail sales and heavy customer service attached. Working conditions are cramped and can be very stressful. crews deal with people for up to 23 hour flights. They have a vast range of skills to have to employ and have to multitask continually whilst making the job look easy and "glamorous.

What education and training is required to become a flight attendant?

A high school diploma is the minimum educational requirement. Applicants who attend schools and colleges that offer flight attendant training may have an advantage over other applicants. If you decide to go to a school for training, check first with the airlines to see which one(s) they prefer their applicants to have training from. Once hired, all candidates must undergo a period of formal training. The length of training, ranging from 3 to 8 weeks, depends on the size and type of carrier and takes place at the airline's flight training center.

However, airlines increasingly prefer applicants with a college degree and with experience in dealing with the public. Highly desirable areas of concentration include people-oriented disciplines such as psychology, communications, sociology, nursing, anthropology, police or fire science, travel and tourism, hospitality and education. Flight attendants for international airlines generally must speak a foreign language fluently.

What kind of things should you know when becoming a flight attendant?

So you dream of being a flight attendant like me?

You think that you have got what it takes?

  • Well first of all,You need to be tall at least minimum of 5 ft 2 in (157cm) and maximum of 6ft 2in (168cm).
  • Depending on which airline you are applying; possession of a full, valid EU passport with no restrictions or for non-EU passport holders, a valid work permit/visa that allows entry to destinations.
  • A good level of health is necessarily:You need to have a good clear eye sight, but don't worry not as much as the pilot's eyesight's are needed to be.You also need to know how to swim at least Meters unaided (Don't worry training is always in a pool so relax)
  • As for certifications;every airline requires basically the same things but some require maths like British Airways and others but generally they only require an excellent command in English and the ability to speak another language. (Well English is easy, right guys?)
  • The last thing that i am going to say is that you have to have a heck load of patience because there are going to be scared people on the plane, crying kids, whiny and grumbling old people and you can't just tell them to shut the hell up...you have to help them and give your best :)

I really hope i helped you guys,I am Elizabeth and i am a Future Flight Attendant,it has been my dream for so long and now that i finished school and stuff, i can apply :) I am going to get my driver's licence by end of summer then im good to go :)) See you everybody :)

Can an ex-flight attendant who lost their job due to a positive drug test reapply to another company with any realistic hopes of regaining a flight attendant position?

As you are an ex-flight attendant, you already know that random drug tests for flight attendants are now the norm and mandated by the FAA. I'd say that it's not likely you could regain another flight attendant position...I don't think most airlines would bother when they already have a lot of applicants as it is...
