What type of person would play the flute?

Someone who has some time they're willing to dedicate to it, and is physically capable of lifting the instrument and putting their arms in position. There isn't really a set personality a flutist needs but you have to be willing to work hard if you want to be serious. But I guess that goes for everything. I've never seen a really lazy person decide to play an instrument.

Hey there, what I think uou may need to do is clean the pads, clean the inside of the flute and the 'cork' part. Cleaning the cork means you can slide the head joint around easier to make sure it's not just facing an awkward angle for your embouchre. (sometime when mine is stiff, I don't turn it and try to play anyway and it just sounds breathy)

The screws at the end of the rows of keys also come loose often, tighten them with a fingernail or screwdriver, but not too tight or it'll still sound bad- it's trial and error, really. I found not leaving my flute set up whilst I'm not playing it helps, and warming up the flute by breathing down it or playing a long low C. Yeah, when I or my flute are cold, all the notes come out scratchy and quiet...

What is the sound source in a flute?

The wind you produce by blowing into the flute.

As the wind passes the openings in the flute, the shape of the air is altered creating wave forms which can be interpreted as sound by the ear drums.

By pressing the keys and changing which holes are open you change the shape of the wind to form different sounds.

This is essentially the basis for all wind instruments, the final sound being the product of how many and which openings are in use combined with the type and shape of the material the wind is passing through all have an effect on the sound.

From this you get the basis for all wind instruments whether the flute, the trumpet, the tuba or anything else you blow into.

You are simply reshaping the wind to produce wave forms.

How do I find out what my flute is worth?

Although this may be difficult to determine, I suppose you would have to find out what kind of model your flute is, and then determine what time period those flutes were made in. It says somewhere on your flute; for example, mine is a Gemeinhardt, and I went to their website. Turns out the company makes only flutes and piccolos, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, they've got so many models of flutes, but a lof of them say "Sopranos". Obviously, mine doesn't sound soprano, so I assume that I have the "Model 2SP Student Flute", because they look like a split image, and the description of it seems to match. In conclusion, to the period of time it was invented, the description says:

The 2SP has been a standard and reliable instrument choice for decades and remains the most popular instrument selected by dealers and educators for beginning flutists.

In conclusion, the model has been made in the 1800s or further back. So go on, research the model of your flute and discover where your flute comes from.

Where do you get free flute sheet music and no downloads?

You most likely will not find much popular music for free on the web, because it will be copyrighted. Music is automatically considered copyrighted until the composer has been dead for 100 years. After the composer has been dead for 100 years, the music is then considered to be in the public domain, which means it can then be used for free. Music like Christmas carols or church hymns are in the public domain, and should be available for free. The one catch with public domain music, is that if someone makes an arrangement of a public domain piece of music, their arrangement is considered as being under copyright, so that arrangement is not in the public domain, even though the original melody was.
