The same way you play a c flute only you have to use more air. Usually it's easier if you can play the low notes on the c flute like below the staff c and b very well. Also, some come with a crutch to make it easier to hold.

Bearing in mind I play both flute and sax, I find flute easier. You shouldn't take my advice though, since I only started playing the sax at Christmas and I'm grade 7 at flute lol

The Flute is a Melodic instrument, in a Concert Band it can be heard playing the melody along with many solos. In a Orchestra, it can be heard doubling the Violins an octave higher, or playing Solos.

There is no spit valve on the Alto Saxophone. There is a spit valve on most Bari Saxophones and Contrabass Saxophones. To remove spit the easiest way is to breath in with your mouth on the mouthpiece as hard as you can. This seems a little unsanitary, but it is the most efficient way, because certain times you will not have more than half a second of a break, and if you have a spittish-tone, you will want to try to get the spit out from inside your mouthpiece.
