What is the sound source in a flute?
The wind you produce by blowing into the flute.
As the wind passes the openings in the flute, the shape of the air is altered creating wave forms which can be interpreted as sound by the ear drums.
By pressing the keys and changing which holes are open you change the shape of the wind to form different sounds.
This is essentially the basis for all wind instruments, the final sound being the product of how many and which openings are in use combined with the type and shape of the material the wind is passing through all have an effect on the sound.
From this you get the basis for all wind instruments whether the flute, the trumpet, the tuba or anything else you blow into.
You are simply reshaping the wind to produce wave forms.

How do I find out what my flute is worth?
Although this may be difficult to determine, I suppose you would have to find out what kind of model your flute is, and then determine what time period those flutes were made in. It says somewhere on your flute; for example, mine is a Gemeinhardt, and I went to their website. Turns out the company makes only flutes and piccolos, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, they've got so many models of flutes, but a lof of them say "Sopranos". Obviously, mine doesn't sound soprano, so I assume that I have the "Model 2SP Student Flute", because they look like a split image, and the description of it seems to match. In conclusion, to the period of time it was invented, the description says:
The 2SP has been a standard and reliable instrument choice for decades and remains the most popular instrument selected by dealers and educators for beginning flutists.
In conclusion, the model has been made in the 1800s or further back. So go on, research the model of your flute and discover where your flute comes from.
Where do you get free flute sheet music and no downloads?
You most likely will not find much popular music for free on the web, because it will be copyrighted. Music is automatically considered copyrighted until the composer has been dead for 100 years. After the composer has been dead for 100 years, the music is then considered to be in the public domain, which means it can then be used for free. Music like Christmas carols or church hymns are in the public domain, and should be available for free. The one catch with public domain music, is that if someone makes an arrangement of a public domain piece of music, their arrangement is considered as being under copyright, so that arrangement is not in the public domain, even though the original melody was.
How do you play a turn on flute?
A turn is also known as a grupetto. Say you have a turn written above a C in a C Major piece of music (no sharps or flats). Your notes would be C-D-C-B-C. You play the written note, the note above, back to the written note, down one step, and back to the written note WITHIN THE KEY SIGNATURE. If your key signature was in F Major and had a Bb, your notes would be C-D-C-Bb-C. Depending on the notes you will need to play and the tempo of the piece, using trill fingerings is sometimes helpful.
Is the flute a brass or reed instrument?
There are two families of wind instruments, woodwinds and brass.
The flute is a member of the woodwind family though it's constructed of metal. The other woodwind family members are oboe, clarinet and bassoon (and their variants). The flute is the only member of the woodwind family that's played without a reed.
The other wind instrument family is the "brass" family; trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba.

How much does it cost to get a flute cleaned and tuned?
The wood should not need to be polished so I assume you mean the keys.
First of all, this may or may not work to your satisfaction (being as you apparently want them shiny). If they're plated, which most clarinets in the last 50 years are, polishing with abrasives or using mechanical means (like an electric powered polishing wheel) might go right through the plating. Many clarinet don't have thick plating to start with.
Secondly, assuming the keys are in good enough condition to risk polishing, to do a good job on the keys (preferably manually and with the appropriate cleaners) the clarinet needs to be fully disassembled. It is just about impossible to polish the keys without damaging the pads, so, you're in for a complete repad. And in the process of polishing, the little corks under the keys will most likely either fall off or get damaged - some, if not all. So, you're in for new key corks and a complete readjustment of cork heights to get the timing and tuning of the clarinet reset.
Basically, you're in for the whole nine yards, since once the clarinet is apart you might as well have the tech get the wood treated.
Still want to get the keys polished?
Where are the holes on a flute?
The flute is not a perfect instrument. Even after tuning, a good flutist will adjust the pitch of every note according to that note's particular tendencies (i.e. some notes are always flat, others sharp, while some are flat in some situations, etc.). Holes and keys have been added over the years to make the flute more in tune, and to make certain trills and fingerings easier. This in turn makes it much easier to play. If you play a Baroque flute, you will notice a substantial increase in difficulty if you're used to a modern flute.

Which is a higher pitched the piccolo or the flute?
over all the piccolo is one octave higher then the flute. Which means that the piccolo is higher but sometimes in band pieces the piccolo part is one octave down then the flute part so the piccolo will be playing in the same octave but most of the time the piccolo part will be one octave up from the flute for as example if a person plays a low b flat on the flute and an other person played the low b flat on the piccolo there will be an octave difference I hope this makes sense to you.
