Can you get food poisoning from eating bad cheese?

Cheese typically is not a risk for Salmonella because it is made with pasteurized milk or is aged sufficiently to kill or inhibit growth. Cheese can become contaminated with Salmonella after pasteurization or in raw or soft cheeses that are not sufficiently aged.

If you eat expired gelatin parfait will it make you sick?

Eating an expired gelatin parfait won't guarantee illness, but it really does depend on the quality of the ingredients, who made it and how it was handled.

What can lead to food conamination and poisoning?

That will depend on the type of contaminant.

  • microbial contaminants can cause food poisoning (e.g. salmonella, e. coli) or infections (e.g. hepatitis A virus infects the liver causing hepatitis)
  • toxic chemical contaminants will cause different types of poisoning depending on the chemical
  • radiological contaminants will cause radiation damage (e.g. iodine-131 kills the thyroid gland, radium kills the bones, uranium can cause cancer several decades later)
  • sand and other gritty contaminants can chip teeth but are unlikely to cause severe injury
  • metal or glass shard contaminants can cut sensitive tissue causing bleeding and may be fatal
  • etc.

Examples of high risk foods?

High-risk foods can be defines as "any ready-to-eat food that will support the growth of pathogenic bacteria easily and does not require any further heat treatment or cooking". These types of foods are more likely to be implicated as vehicles of food poisoning organisms consumed in food poisoning incidents. Such foods are usually high in protein, require strict temperature control and protection from contamination and include:

· cooked meat and poultry such as; beef, pork, ham, lamb, chicken, turkey, duck

· cooked meat products such as; meat pies & pasties, pate, meat stock & gravy, cook-chill meals

· dairy produce such as; milk, cream, artificial cream, custards, products containing unpasteurised milk, ripened soft & moulded cheeses

· egg products such as; cooked eggs, quiche and products containing uncooked or lightly cooked eggs, for example; mayonnaise, mousse, home-made ice cream

· shellfish and other sea-foods such as; mussels, cockles, cooked prawns, raw oysters

· Farinaceous dishes including; cooked rice, pasta, couscous

The risk is nothing to do with fat amounts it's how the food is cooked an served. For example chicken is high risk as it can contain samonella. All high risk foods either have to remain refridgerated (0-5 celcisus), or frozen (-18 celsius) for becterial growth to be dormant or cooked at over 60 celsius

Bacteria needs warmth, moisture and food to grow so keep food out of the danger zone of 5-60 celsius
things such as rice, eggs and chicken
yoghurt meat cream cheese and fish
A very high risk food is raw chicken and/or raw eggs. They both can be contaminated with salmonella.

For food poisoning to occur bacteria need the right conditions.?

Pathogenic bacteria found in food generally require temperatures between 40°F and 135°F to grow. They also need moisture and food. They also tend to be anaerobic so they will survive better in an oxygen deficient atmosphere.

Also bacteria grows from uncaring use like not washing hands after use of the bog and leaving brown stains all over the bog and sink :)

==========================================================

Answer:

Most westerners have absolutely no idea about the meaning of Japanese words.

Sushi is the name for cakes of rice, topped with a wide variety of vegetables, dried seaweed, meats or fish.

The Japanese term for raw fish is not sushi- it is sashimi.

Nobody ever got food poisoning from eating rice cakes (sushi); genuine Japanese cooks are extremely careful about the preparation of sashimi, using only the very highest quality and freshest fish, so the risk of health problems resulting from eating it is minimal.

Sashimi made at home by westerners is more likely to be a problem, because westerners do not have anything like the same careful traditions in the kitchen

What to do if your dog has salmonella poisoning?

I take it you took your dog to the vet who determined the dog has Salmonella. Otherwise, you wouldn't know it was Salmonella.

The vet probably has the dog on antibiotics. Give them as directed.

The next thing you should do is try to determine where the Salmonella came from. See if he got into something that he should not have gotten into. Some rawhide treats have caused outbreaks. If you think it is a commercial product, check with your vet and public health folks. Also search the internet for any reports on the products you feed your dog.

What temperature do pathogens grow best at?

Most bacteria develop rapidly between 20 and 40 °C. Those that are pathogenic to humans are normally cultivated around body temperature, 37 ±3 °C for fast analysis.

Most bacteria stop growing at temperatures close to 0 °C. Also most bacteria die at about 70 °C, but there are pathogenic bacteria that need 121 °C to be killed off.

Refrigerators shall have max 8°C temperature to reduce bacterial growth, 2 °C for storing of fish (hence ice boxes are used). Food shall be warmed above 70 °C fast and cooled rapidly to below 8 °C to according to EU rules for cooking.

There are though extreme environment bacteria e.g. thermophile ones that thrive in heat, i.e. 45-100 °C. In freezing environments many bacteria go to a kind of hibernation mode, as "spores", where they survive but don't reproduce. Others, the kryophiles, like cold and some can reproduce below 0 °C. Colwellia has metabolism even at -200 °C.

How can you prevent infection and food poisoning?

It's actually not all that complicated to reduce the incidence of foodborne illness anywhere:

# Obtain food from reliable sources. # Store food properly - keep hot foods hot, cold foods cold and dry foods dry. # When cooking, cook foods to the appropriate temperature. That includes reheating leftovers thoroughly.

# Wash hands before handling food, at any interruption and when changing tasks. # Keep all food contact surfaces clean. It is actually better to allow dishes and utensils to air dry rather than drying with a reusable towel.

# Prevent cross contamination. # Use the food within a reasonable amount of time.

How do you treat food poisoning?

well you see, there isn't any thing that can actually get rid of it. there are, however, ways to make it better until it goes away.

1) throw up- it may not be enjoyable, but it will help get rid of the food that is causing your stomach to hurt. many people can force themselves to throw up by burping and pushing the stomach rapidly (eww... sorry its life). others, have to cause the gag reflex to kick in by putting their fingers on the back of their throat, but that is VERY unpleasant, and HIGHLY dangerous... make sure you KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

2) HYDRATE- dehydration is a major symptom of food poisoning, especially if you are throwing up. be sure to drink PLENTY of water, and also a drink with electrolytes like Vitamin Water, or Gatorade.

3) eat minimal- be sure to eat, but not that much. eating too much while going through food poisoning can cause you to throw up it all up again.

4) DO NOT TAKE MEDS- unless directed by a doctor, DO NOT take meds such as Advil, peptobysmal, tums, etc. for you WILL throw them up and it will be a total waste of money, and it could even make your stomach hurt.

5) sleep- sleep is the body's best way of healing!

I hope this was helpful! but before i say good bye, make sure u actually have food poisoning, and not the stomach flu....

1) fever

2) throwing up

3) diarrhea

4) chills

5) stomach pain

6) weakness

7) body aches

AND, one last thing... go to the doctor if....

1) throw up or diarrhea has blood in it

2) fever is 101.5 F for a stable amount of time

3) severe abdominal pain

4) issues with swallowing

5) trouble breathing

6) inability to keep food or beverage down for 24 hours.

hope this was helpful, and get well soon!
