When the engine is warm the idle speed drops and the car judders and the interior lights flicker along with the headlights Can you help i have a ford focus zteck on an 02 plate?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It sounds like there could be an issue with the alternator or the electrical system in your car. The drop in idle speed and juddering indicate a potential problem with the engine. The flickering interior lights and headlights suggest an issue with the alternator not properly charging the battery. It's best to have a mechanic inspect and diagnose the specific cause to address the problem correctly.

A bubbling noise when accelerating on a Mercury Topaz 1990 could indicate a problem with the cooling system, such as air bubbles in the coolant or a leak. User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Possible reasons for freon not flowing into the low-pressure port during a recharge could be a blockage or restriction in the system, a malfunctioning metering device like the expansion valve, or an issue with the compressor not creating sufficient suction. It's important to diagnose the problem accurately to ensure a successful recharge.

User Avatar

Zetec-E engine: (located passenge side of engine compartment, below power steering reservoir) Remove securing bolt for coolant expansion tank, lift expansion tank out of clip and move to side. Remove drive belt. Lift power steering reservoir from retaining bracket and move to one side. Unscrew securing bolt from wiring loom bracket and move to one side (disconnect multi-plug). Remove the bolt from power steering reservoir bracket to release ground cable --- Carefully bend the ground bracket down (aid in removal of alternator). Remove the two retaining bolts from the canister purge valve and move to one side. Remove the plastic cover, unscrew the nut and disconnect the wiring from the back of the alternator. Unscrew and remove the bolt nearest the engine. Unscrew the other retaining bolt until it is fully disengaged from the threads (will not be possible to remove bolt from alternator until after alternator has been removed). INSTALL: put this bolt in new alternator before lowering alternator into position. Installation is reverse of removal procedure (Don't forget to carefully bend ground bracket back to original position).

2.0L SPI engine: (located: passenge side of engine compartment, possibly below power steering pump, follow drive belt) Remove the bolts holding the power steering pipe brackets to the exhaust manifold and set the pipe to one side. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Remove the drive belt. Remove the plastic cover, unscrew the nut and disconnect the wiring from the alternator. Unscrew the alternator mounting bolts and lift alternator from the engine. If this does not help see similar question/answer from four months ago.

SIMILAR QUESTION:

My boyfriend has a 2002 Ford Focus. He is trying to replace the alternator. He has it unscrewed and everything but it just won't come out. The book he has on the car isn't any help.

So, how can he get the old one out of his car? * 4 months ago

Ford Girl answer to similar question.

On this particular car, you need to support the bottom of the engine, and remove the engine mount to enable access to it. If it has the 2.0L DOHC Zetec engine, you will need to raise to engine slightly and tilt the engine forward (toward the front of the car), in order to gain the necessary clearance for removal.

On the 2.0L SPI engine you'll need to tilt the engine rearward (toward to back of the car) to get the alternator out. The sizes of the fasteners to remove are three 15mm bolts on the body, and two 18mm nuts on the engine. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS SUPPORTED BEFORE YOU REMOVE THEM. Hope this helps.

I have an 2003 Focus 2.0L SPI and I did not tilt the engine rearward to get the alternator out. I removed the power steering pump and the radiator fan. This is far easier than tilting the engine... I'm not sure why anyone would suggest this. Maybe necessary for some models, but I'd unbolt stuff all day before messing with tilting the engine.

Who said is your glass half full or half empty?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on who is responding to the question. It also matters if you are filling up the cup, or drinking it.

An optimist, focusing on what he or she has, observes what is in the glass - the full half. A pessimist, on the other hand, focuses on what is missing, what he or she doesn't have - the empty half.

It is always full. It may be filled with 50% of water and 50% of air, or any variation of competing percentages, but it is always full of something even if it looks empty as it could be FULL of air.

It's completely empty until you put something in it.

The cup is half full. A glass can't be half empty because half of nothing is still nothing

If you pour water into a cup until its filled half way, the cup of water is half full.

If you fill a cup of water completely, then empty half of the water, the cup is half empty.

If I told you I poisoned the water in the cup, would it matter if it's half full or half empty?

The cup is not half full or half empty. The cup may be 1/8 off of being half full/empty, but it would take mad skill to get the cup exactly half full/empty. I suggest you do not ask a question, but rather a statement, like, "The cup is 1/4 filled." or "The cup is 3/4 filled." I assume you noticed I said "Filled" instead of "Full" or "Empty". But, since there is the one in a million chance that one of us has some crazy awesome mad skill, I guess you should ask "Does the pot have half of the pasta it can hold?" but add "And you can't say if it's filled!". So, the cup is half filled.

The loud buzzing noise you hear from under the hood when you turn the key to start the vehicle usually means the battery is too low to crank the engine or a loose cable. Some auto parts stores will test the battery free of charge.

2003 Ford Focus won't start?

User Avatar

the most common cause by far is the coil pack, its easy to change and a fairly cheap component - its certainly worth a try if the management light isn't on. if you want to be sure have the ecu fault code read as other possible causes are cam and crank shaft sensors. good luck.

What is the difference between a mass air flow sensor and a mass air flow meter?

User Avatar

Asked by Missy7832

The mass air flow (MAF) sensor measures the mass of the air entering the engine. Because air mass varies with air temperature (cold air is denser than warm air), measuring air mass provides the PCM with a very acurate way of determining the correct amount of fuel to obtain the ideal fuel/air mixture. - Haynes Repair Manual #36071
