Stegosaurus didn't live in the forest. They lived in the subtropical semi-arid plains of North America and Portugal between 155 and 150 million years ago. Near rivers, there were forests of conifers, cycads, ginkgoes, ferns, and horsetails. Further from the rivers there were open areas covered in ferns with scattered trees. It is believed that Stegosaurus preferred the drier fern fields over the forests.
