Sometimes, the amounts vary by state, and work on a case by case basis.

In general:

  • You may be able to negotiate one with the case manager regardless of special needs.

Why are so many children in foster care in the US?

Sexual abuse, violence, negligence, starvation, abandonment.

Can a 16 year old get married in foster care while having a kid and the guy is 18?

Yes, if you are a girl marrying an 18 or older (I don't know about the other way around), but be very careful that you do not marry for that reason only. This may sound old-fashioned and fairy-tale like, but it is true. Find your soulmate. My parents found each other after years of a painful relationship. After their spouses died, they did find each other and are very happy. They have been married 3 yrs now and still act like newlyweds (which can be embaressing sometimes (lol)) They relied on God to get them through. if you want me to go into more detail, ask on my message board : Seems a desperate measure to take to end a situation. Surely you could talk over any problems with your social worker and get independent living if you really want out of where you are.

Can a kid in foster care go across state lines?

Yes, but it requires a court order authorizing the travel; it's up to the case worker and judge to allow it or not.

The foster parent's for the children that I'm adopting have taken many of their foster kids on vacations: especially on cruises (even ones that visit foreign countries). According to them, it's important to have the case worker to be aware of your travel and ready to answer the phone if needed, and you'll need a stack of paperwork to be able to prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are the legal guardian of those children.

While I can't speak from experience: I'd say adoption. You don't stop needing a family just because you turn 18.

On holidays, it's good to get together with your family, even if you're in your 20s or 30s (or even older).

Contact a social worker or Child Protective Service if you are being harmed. A judge will decide if your problems are severe enough to take you from your family. Or if your family are unfit to raise you. But remember that once you are in the system it's not easy to get out. Only a judge decides when you are allowed to leave foster care and if you are allowed to live or see your family.

Can one parent put their child in foster care?

Not as long as both parents have parental rights. If one parent gives up his parental rights which is required when putting a child in foster care, the other parent is the first one in line to take the child since she still have her parental rights. This assuming both are fit to parent.

If the parents are not married and the father has not proved paternity in court and got his parental rights he should do so asap and then he has rights to the child. The social workers usually ask relatives first if they are interested in taking the child. There is a shortage fo foster families and staying with family is considered best for the child.
