What were some of the major causes of the French and Indian War?

France and Britain both claimed the same lands in North America.

A cause of the French and Indian War was that the British wanted to move westward, but that was the French land. The French did not want just to give up their land, so they did not let the British have it. So the British still wanted the land, so they started having wars with the French may times they lost, but they kept fighting.

The Indians come in about right now. The Indians thought the French would win and not the British. So they sided with the French thinking they would win. Also, they thought if the French win that the French would give them back a little of their land in return for their help.

They thought that that the British would not give them anything if they won for helping them win. Another thing was that there were not many French and that meant that there was more room for the Indians, but with the British there were more so they kicked out the Indians like they were nothing.

This war was part of a long sruggle between France and Britain for territory and power.

The French would not let English colonists settle in the Ohio River valley.

Why did many Native Americans side with the French in the French and Indian War?

The French colonies were less of a threat than British colonizers. The French had mostly small outposts of trappers and traders. The British colonies had exploded in population since their establishment and were clearly looking to expand into lands that the Native Americans currently occupied. The style of British colonies did not have any place for Native Americans.

This was clear when the British commander in charge of fighting the French, General Braddock, was asked by Shingas (a local leader of the Delaware Indians) whether the tribes who allied with Britain would be allowed to live and trade with the English and have land of their own. General Braddock replied that "No Savage Should Inherit the Land"

To what extent did the American Revolution fundamentally change American society?

After the American Revolution ended, the United States were only united by the Articles of Confederation. The Articles didn't give Congress the power to tax the states, so the federal government was just depending on "contributions" by the states. The U.S. had a HUGE national debt and didn't have enough money to pay soldiers who fought in the war, not to mention the countries like France who helped the Americans fight the Revolution. Because of this, the Federalists proposed ratifying the Constitution. When they ratified it, along with the Bill of Rights, George Washington was unanimously President of the United States. Later, Alexander Hamilton established the Bank of the United States and encouraged the federal government to pay back all debts owed plus all debts incurred by each of the states. This united the states economically, and the Washington adminstration stabilized the economy and federal government.

Is the seve years war the same as the French and Indian War?

The British called the war The French and Indian War because that's who they were fighting against (The French and their Indian allies).

The French called it the Seven Years' war because it was originally supposed to last seven years, but it continued on to be nine.

The difference is the French & Indian war was between Britain & France in the US and the Seven Years War was a separate conflict fought in Germany and central Europe between Prussia and a coalition headed by Austria, France, and Russia.

The link being France. And France loses in both battles.

How much did the war cost on the french and Indian war?

According to Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, the war cost £40 million. The book was first published in 1776, 13 years after the French and Indian War.

"The great property which they possess both in French and English funds, about forty millions, it is said in the latter (in which, I suspect, however, there is a considerable exaggeration ), the great sums which they lend to private people, in countries where the rate of interest is higher than in their own, are circumstances which no doubt demonstrate the redundancy of their stock, or that it has increased beyond what they can employ with tolerable profit in the proper business of their own country; but they do not demonstrate that that business has decreased."

This is rough, and I could give you a better number if I looked for the CPI of the British pound.

$40 million in 1774 = $1,060,572,890.03 (2008)
$1,060,572,890.03 ≈ £718.4 million

Of course we spend that much every three days in Iraq. What's a few billion.
