To program a conventional frequency into the scanner first select a channel to program and then enter the frequency you wish to store in that channel number and finally press E.

1. The type of feeder - Flatbed General Purpose Single page scanner, or automatic document feeder that is used for scanning manuals and books and works faster then normal flatbed scanners.

2. Software compatibility - One key feature of a scanner is the type of software it requires to operate and whether or not that it is compatible with your particular computer. It is important to identify if the specific drivers needed to make the scanner work with your computer are included with the scanner itself. Without them, the scanner will be all but useless to you.

6. Price - While it may not be obvious to some, price can often be one of the most important features of any scanner.

It depends on your location and the policies of the police department or departments in your area as different police departments around the country use different types of communications equipment.

Some cities digitally encrypt their communications so that only the intended personnel are able to listen in and communicate such as the Orange County California police.

Police departments that use APCO 25 codes require a scanner with technology that can decode APCO 25 codes. Considering the age of the pro-70 I would not think that the pro-70 police scanner is capable of doing this. I also was not able to find any reference to APCO in the owner's manual.

If the frequencies you wish to monitor are below 512Mhz and use a conventional system to communicate it should work. If the frequencies in use are truncated or use APCO 25 codes or are encrypted then no.

Also there may be different frequencies and systems being used for various police agencies in your area that you wish to listen to such as Highway Patrol or Local Police or Local Sheriff's or State Police or park rangers and the list continues.

If you have a local Radio Shack around locally they may be able to provide information specific to your area to see if a pro-70 scanner will work for picking up local police traffic.

A Universal Product Code scanner is used every time you purchase something. It helps the store keep track of what is sold and it also notifies the company of the product you bought so they can keep track of their sales records.

The PRO-163 will work with many trunking systems, but it is not a digital scanner. As the question does not specify the type of police scanner it becomes a bit more difficult to answer the question as to how to stop the beep of the police scanner in question.

The manual to the scanner should tell exactly how to disable the beep when pushing buttons on the unit.

If the manual is lost the manufacturer should be able to help. Many owner manuals are now available online especially for more recent products.

A local electronics store such as Radio Shack may have the owner manual available online or may have knowledge as to how to disable the beep.

Finally a search online in a search engine for your particular type of scanner may provide information as to how to find the manual or how to do what you seek to do.

My answering machine stopped operating correctly..when anyone calls the message is that I do not have a mailbox set up...how do I correct this?

obviously the fs1860 is better by 160 over the fs1700.

If one wishes to purchase a high speed scanner they are widely available. These can be purchased at Best Buy, Staples and Future Shop. They are also available for purchase online on sites such as Amazon, DHgate, eBay and Overstock.
