How does a German Shepherd use its environment for survival?
A GSD is a pet and rely's on human care, so they do not need to fend for themselves.
How do you stop your German shepherd from peeing in the house?
Toilet train him perhaps. type in'how to house train my dog' in google.
Then the mixed breed will have the possibility of both. Of course, as it IS a mixed breed, both parents will be of poor quality as good breeders don't produce mongrels. So the German Shepherd parents will have a poor hip score and the Rottweiler parent will be off poor quality also, making heart problems more common.
What can you give your German shepherd puppy when it is losing its puppy teeth?
All they want is stuff to chew on. Give him lots of bones, kong, tennis balls. This time is about the hardest when taking care of a shepherd puppy because they will have a strong urge to chew on EVERYTHING, even you. Make sure you never allow your pup to chew on your fingers, it won't hurt when he is very little but it sure will later so don't teach him the wrong thing by letting him.
What should you do if a 2-year-old fell off the bed a week ago and has had a fever now for 4 days?
You missed the train! Whenever a child falls from a height or hits their head on something this is good reason to at least go to a clinic or the ER. Concusion can occur hours or days later, so always have your child checked over by a doctor no matter if you feel the fall wasn't all that bad and your child has stopped crying.
The fall and the fever are unlikely to be related and if the fall was a week ago and you've seen no effects it probably wasn't serious. Prolonged fever in a child of that age does however merit a visit to the doctor.
I have a neighbor that shved his pug in the middle of winter and the pug died of hyperthermia. Please caution when shaving animals. Some people do it because of allergys. However, If this is the case please ask you vet. Their are rx's to help the dandruff. Please don't shave dogs un- appriapate matter. It seems cruel and they are helpless. There are certain breeds of dogs that should not be shaved and your German Shepherd is one of them. If you got the dog from the ASPCA and the dog has a lot of mats they will often shave the dog close to the skin. If your groomer did it or you did it .... shame! I have a Bichon Frise that has very curly hair like sheeps wool and I just had her shaved down (but not right to the skin) or else she gets very hot. It's late spring where I live and the weather is warmer. The above poster is correct in saying that dogs should never be shaved close during winter months. It might make his life cooler now that summer is here, but remember, dogs have their natural coats for a reason. When you remove their coats you have to watch them in the sun. They can be overheated and become sun burned just like humans.
Should you give up a ferret for a German shepherd?
yes because if you do your dog will play with you and sleep with you and it will protect you too!
Which German shepherd dogs are more loyal?
The German Shepherd is ONE breed!
A Black and Tan won't be any less loyal than a White or Black. Colour makes NO difference.
Who sell German shepherd dogs and why?
A reputable breeder breeds German Shepherd's as they adore the breed and wish to keep the breed pure and worthy of its lineage.
Then... BYB's [back yard breeder's] who breed a couple for some quick money and finally,
Puppy Miller's who keep various breeds in small cages and breed them, making a huge profit.
Alsatian is just another name for the German Shepherd breed.
At what age do German Shepherds become protective?
I am a long-time German Shepherd Dog (GSD) owner and can tell you that they are one of the most intelligent, yet territorial dog breeds in the world. As such, they have been placed on the "naughty list" by most insurance companies. This is something to keep in mind if you are considering adopting one. Back to your question, I believe that GSDs are born with a territorial instinct; however, their level of assertiveness and aggressiveness really depends on the environment in which they were raised. Eight months seems to be the age when GSDs become more aware of their surroundings and start to develop a "that's mine" attitude. It's best to introduce the breed to strangers early on, so that they do not develop a fear or become too aggressive. Set boundaries and make sure to stick to them. GSDs know how to problem solve. They also know how to get the upper hand. Good luck!
What is the best home environment for a German Shepherd?
From a grooming standpoint, the home should have easy care flooring and preferably leather furniture because these dogs shed a lot. First and foremost, they need lots of exercise. A small apartment is not going to be a good choice unless the owner likes to do a lot of jogging with his dog every day. If you don't find a constructive way to burn off all the excess energy a working dog like a German Shepherd builds up when he lives as a pampered pet, he'll become destructive. He'll eat tables and doorknobs. He'll annoy neighbors. He'll unmake all the beds and re-arrange the furniture. He'll watch home remodeling shows emphasizing demolition and put what he's learned to use. Next, they need mental stimulation. That means life-long training. If you run out of things you need them to know, start teaching them sports or tricks. They're smart dogs who can learn just about anything. I have one who figured out the airconditioner on her own because she's solid black, gets hot, and prefers the thermostat a little lower than I do. If my dog can do that on her own, there is no end to what your dog can learn if you set about helping him to learn it. GSDs without enough constructive things to occupy their minds observe and learn things you wish they didn't. I have one who figured out deadbolts and car door locks and has decided it's incredibly funny to lock me out of the house or car. I become suspicious when they watch me just a little too closely as I drive and operate ATMs. One of these days.... The owner should be confident, clever, and experienced training working dogs. They should be on their toes and able to keep one step ahead. A German Shepherd is not for the faint-of-heart. While they are not by nature mean dogs, they are smart and they know it. They'll test people to see how smart and confident the person is and then gauge what they can convince the person to allow. I have a lovely 10 year old service dog, specially trained to help me with a disability related to a traumatic brain injury. I trust this dog with my life, and he has never, ever failed me. When I have fallen and dropped his leash, he's brought it back to me. When I've had a seizure, he looks after me, keeping me from wandering into danger. BUT: when I am disoriented after a seizure, he will take advantage. When asked to take me home, he does. But he takes the scenic route so he can sniff the pee-mail on the way. He does this because he's figured out he can. There's not a touch of malice or sneakiness in this dog, but he is a dog. Though he walks for me on a loose leash ignoring distractions, I cannot let my mother walk him because he'd drag her off on an adventure and ignore her pleas to return home. He knows she's a cream puff and she'll never tell him not to do something. My breeder taught me something I live by to this day. "You can spoil them all you want, so long as you make them tow the line." Don't ask them to do something unless you are prepared to out-stubborn them on whether they do it. Never, ever back down or give in. German Shepherds (and most dogs) prefer living with very clear boundaries of what is and is not accepted. They may continue to test the owner throughout their lives, but calling them on it with a simple, "knock it off," from a confident and knowledgeable owner is sufficient to keep them in line, beautifully behaved, and above all: happy.

What is a good dog food for German shepherd with EPI?
If you feed kibble make sure it is a low fiber/low fat product, that is no more than 12% fat and 4% fiber. Most people find that their EPI dogs do not tolerate grains very well. A good many of those that do are only able to digest grains that are hydrolyzed as those found in most "prescription" diets. So when looking for a kibble you may want to check out one that is grain free. Solid Gold has several that are both grain free and low fat and low fiber. Raw feeding is also very popular with EPI dog owners. But to be able to absorb the food properly most dogs will require it to be ground up first -- this includes both the meat and the bone. When feeding a raw diet it is important to do so under the guidance of someone with experience as there is more to feeding raw than just tossing a chunk of meat into a bowl. EPI dogs should be fed 2 or even 3 times a day. EPI dogs need to have their food treated with enzymes. Many vets will tell the owners to put so much per cup/per lb. and serve. This will many many times burn the inside of the dogs mouth and lead to blisters. Remembers these enzymes are to pre-digest the dog's food and as such will try to break down anything they come into contact with. A better way to do it is to measure out the correct amount, put it on top of the food, add warm (not hot) water and stir very well. Let treated food then sit for a min. of 20-30 minutes before giving to the dog. Some dogs even do better if the food sits for 45-60 minutes. Besides making it more pleasant for the dog to eat (no burning), the food is better able to be digested and used by the dog. A good rule of thumb when starting to give enzymes is: 1 tsp powdered or 7 tablets of enzymes per cup of kibble or 1/2 tsp powdered enzymes to 1 cup of raw food. Amount may be adjusted up or down as needed by the individual dog.
What do you feed a German sherperd puppy after you ween it?
Puppy chow from the pet store. Preferably Iams, but that's just my opinion.
How much training will a German shepherd pit bull terrier mix require?
This is a high energy mix that requires a dedicated owner. However, both breeds are very intelligent so you will find that the dog will be a quick learner and will respond eagerly to a firm yet fair owner (no need to be mean, just authoritative). I recommend walking the dog frequently, especially early on (in the correct way!! You in front!!) to establish pack leadership. Once the roles are defined your dog will be much, much, much easier to train. I have a 2 year old pit/gsd mix and will say that after you spend the time early on to properly train this mix, they become extremely obedient, loyal dogs.
How big does a Alaskan malamute German shepherd mix get?
Lets just say if you have a small apartment it will have a little space to move around
Can a German Shepherd live in a senoir living development?
No, not unless he or she was very old. German shepherds need a lot of exercise and I don't think that it would be possible for him to get enough at a place like that.
What breed is My dog she has a brindle coat and white spots on her paws?
Usually one of two breeds. Either a Pitbull or a Boxer. Brindle coloring, one or more white paws as well white markings on chest and or nose are indicative of both breeds. The boxer will have a very short nose/snout.
Infinite variation and combination of colors is possible.
