Applications may not open because they do not find the operating system they were expecting. Both the latest versions of PaintBrush and iPaint require Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) while the latest version of GIMP requires Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

There are older versions of the software available that support older versions of the Mac OS such as 10.4 (Tiger).

I actually wondered this for a while when I updated my GIMP before figuring this one out. I tried dragging the entire window and dropping it, but that obviously didn't work. Then I tried grabbing just inside the window and dragging that.

Let's take the dialogue box "Layers" for example. The entire window is, in my case, surrounded by a blue border (I use Windows, obviously) telling me that this window is active. Instead of grabbing the blue border, I grab the word "Layers" at the top and drag it into GIMP where it says "You can drop dock-able dialogues here".

To add more dialogues to my GIMP toolbox, I drag the dialogue to the raised bar that separates my GIMP toolbox and my other docked dialogues.

First, download the font you would like to use. Then, using a program such as Winrar or 7zip, extract the files from the file you downloaded. Once extracted, move the fonts to the font folder on your C drive, in the Windows folder.

Image files of all sorts can open in GIMP. A quick way to see a full list is by opening a new image in GIMP, then selecting "Save As". There will be a + next to the text "Select File Type (By Extension)" Clicking this plus will drop down a long list of files executable by GIMP.

sometimes people will accidentally hit the TAB key on their keyboard, which hides all toolbars on the screen. Hitting TAB a second time will bring all of the toolbars back. It's a great way to clear the screen so you can clearly see what you're doing (instead of actually closing them.)

Drag the whole file from a windows explorer window to the GIMP page then use the move tool.

You can compress the pictures when they are saved, and the level of compression depends on the format you choose when saving the picture.

JPEG format has the best compression for photos. PNG and GIF formats are for simple titles, drawings, logos, etc.

Choose the format in the dialog box 'Save As' such as .JPEG, .PNG or .GIF in which you want to save the picture.

Also, in the "Save as .PNG" dialogue there is an option to modify the compression level which you can assign while saving.

You can enlarge image in Image Size dialog in Photoshop, Image > Image Size. At top of window you will see current/new size in bytes. When you enlarging images be aware because you can loose quality.
