First I would make sure that you have enough gas. I know this would be obvious, but you never know. If that doesn't help, then the following could be your problem:
1. Loose or faulty electrical connection at the coil pack or alternator
2. Insufficient fuel reaching the fuel injectors - could be a fuel injection problem.
3. Check your spark plugs and wires.
4. Vacuum leak at the gasket betwen the intake manifold and throttle body.
-gz1 I had a spare key made for my car and had the same problem with it. If you had a spare key made it doesnt have the computer chip built in so the car rejects it. 01GPGTX
this is a GT with floor shift and 3800 engine
Hi,I just replaced mine on my 94 model.I'm assuming you have the 3.4 but the repair should be about the same.In order to access the lines on the bottom you have to drop the exhaust at the rear of the engine. If you remove the 2 bolts where the pipe exits the engine and unbolt the 4 bolts at the catalytic converter and drop this pipe out of the way it's a tight fit but you can get at the fittings.Make sure to trace the lines well as it is easy to get them crossed up from the power steering pump down to the steering rack. The rest of the line replacement is easy just break the line loose at the pump and pull it out of the line clips and feed the new one back behind the engine and re-install in the opposite order.
For an excellent description of how to complete this task with pictures check out the following website. http://www.robandcatsworld.com/trans.htm Hope this helps. "G"

The process is the similar for all grand prix trim levels '97 to 03 Caution Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury: Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb. Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete. Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb. Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass. Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb. Properly dispose of the used bulb. Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children. Raise the hood. Remove the two bolts holding the entire light assembly in (side marker, headlight and turn signal) located on the upper fascia support. Once these bolts are removed the entire assembly will shift to the right for the drivers side (when facing the vehicle) or to the left for the passenger side (when facing the vehicle). Once the assembly is removed you will have access to the wires/bulb. Position the headlamp assembly away from the vehicle body to access the electrical connector. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp assembly. Remove the headlamp assembly from the vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp bulb/socket. Remove the headlamp bulb/socket retainer ring from the headlamp, by turning counterclockwise. Remove the headlamp bulb/socket from the headlamp assembly. To ressemble simply do the reverse. These instructions sound complicated but the procedure is not that difficult. If your bulb burned out due to humidity or water in the lens, then this problem must be remedied (Headlamp replaced $65 Ebay -new part)or the new bulb will be short lived. Right side frame behind washer bottle assy. Can be accessed by loosening inner fender.
A bad transmission solenoid will cause hard shifting and can eventually damage the unit. You should change the solenoid if it is bad.
A 1999 Grand Prix GTP uses an EATON M90 supercharger that displaces 90 cubic inches of air during every revolution.
This results in a rating of 240 horsepower at the crank at 5200RPM, and a "pavement pounding" 280ft-lb of torque at 3600RPM!
most of the service lights are turned out by holding the trip counter in with the ignition off while holding down turn on the key the service light should go out the other type of dashes have a small rubber grommit remove it and poke a screwdriver to the black button and repeat the same as the earlier dashes.
The difference in a GT, and GTP is that the GTP is supercharged. Which gives it 40 extra horses over the GT. GT1 means it a car that was realeased in the first half of the year.
I Do my own oil changes on my Grand Prix GXP. I have seen many responses of for 6L. I add only 3.4.3.7L of Oil.. The Dip stick shows the oil level at the top of the hash marks (max) when the car is off. When I start the car and run it for a few minutes and shut if off. Check the oil level again level is at ( min) ..If I wait 5 minutes the level is at the max.
6L of Oil will over fill the engine and could cause damage...
Does anyone know the correct level.

My 1999 grandprix ftp has 238,000 original miles and its working fine till now.
My 2000 GTP has 329000 kms and I have never had a tranny problem have never even had to add a drop of fluid.
Rpm stands for revolutions per minute. This is talking about the revolutions the crankshaft goes per minute. The faster you go to more revoultions that are accomplished. Therefore the faster you go, the rpm goes up. And as you slow down it goes down.
Generally only one coil will fail at a time. You will notice a distinct miss and rough engine running bath at idle and at speed. The check engine light will come on and a diagnostic tool will bring back the "engine miss" code. Buy a new coil and change out the coils until the miss goes away. If you do not have a diagnostic tool to turn off the check engine light it will turn off after a few driving cycles.
there's two clips on top of the air cleaner box - these just pop up and release. once that's done you can just slide the cover up and off the box exposing the air cleaner. remove and replace and put the box lid back back on.
i think, but don't hold me to this, on the driverside just below the air filter box. postioned to the torqconverter case next to the tranny. u can see a throttle cable attached to this position sensor if i am not mistaking this to a taurus...
Your oil temperature gauge will connect to the oil pressure sensor. The water temperature gauge will hook up to the water temperature sensor. The oil pressure sensor will be on the left-hand side of the engine and the water temperature sensor will be on the front of the engine.
