When you get involved in the arts as a career, it is important to know how much you are going to be paid to ensure you have enough to live on. In the United Kingdom, the average hourly rate for a graphic designer is approximately 15,000 pounds.

The difference between spot colors and process colors is the way the color is mixed.

The best way to describe this is printing. When printing most printers will use 4 colored inks known as CMYK (Cyan Majenta Yellow and Black).

A process color is created by mixing the CMYK colors together to get the different shades and colors within your printout.

With Spot colors they are mixed to a certain color specifically and known as a Pantone or PMS color. Then this certain color cartrididge is placed in the printing press and printed.

So in order to make a process and spot color print, special presses have 5 or more cartridges so they can print CMYK with extra spot colors.

Now the reason why there are Spot colours is to keep a certain color that won't change throughout all printing and design. Having a specific color throughout a logo is very important to many businesses as a slight change in color from just using a process color can change the whole look of a logo. In most cases the problem is too much of one color when printing in CMYK. For example a logo that we have previously printed was a light organge and was pressed with a process color of CMYK. The result was a very bright yellow, making the corporate logo look playful instead of clean and slick. While if instead was printed to the spot color, this problem wouldn't of occured and the spot color would be reflected as seen on your digital design (as long as your screen has been calibrated).

You can design animated logo in Photoshop using Animations panel (Window > Animations). Animated design can be saved as .gif format. Search Help or other resources for more detailed information's.

The graphic of the packaging plays an important role in giving an eye catching look to the packaging boxes. The color scheme of packaging matters a lot to give a meaning to your packaging box. The graphic of product printed on packaging box may give an idea about the packed product and can be useful for making purchase decision.

This mostly goes back to the time when the machine was first introduced (1984). IBM PCs were mostly text based and seen as business machines while the Mac (and the earlier Apple ][ and Apple III) supported graphics as well as text. So the Mac was seen by people doing graphics design as a better machine for their purposes. This resulted in a large number of graphics design applications being written for Macs early on, long before any were written for PCs.

Now equally good graphics design applications are available for both platforms, but many graphics designers remember the early days and still prefer to work on Macs. Also if a large investment was made in early Macs its less expensive and there will be fewer file format compatibility issues if upgrades are made to newer Macs than by converting to PCs, so graphics design companies have tended to stick with Macs over the years. >

The advantage of an electronic office is that all the records are automated and can therefore be easily retrieved. The disadvantage of electronic office is that they are expensive to set up.

Interactive media design refers to the designing, creation and evaluation of interactive media, or media with user interaction. It is related to the concepts of interactivity and human computer interaction.

The RAL color 8025 is close to three Pantone colors. These colors are Pantone Solid Uncoated 4625 U, Pantone Metallic 8585 C, and Pantone Solid Coated 7532 C.

Graphic designers usually either work for a studio or firm or operate independently from their home or office. In a studio, an entry-level designer can expect to be paid $15-$18/hr, however a graduate with competence and a worthy portfolio can expect to start off with a salary of $45k-$65k per year, which would seem like $25/hr to $36/hr, but in reality designers making decent money usually work more than 40 hrs/week.

Working independently is a totally different story. Freelance or registered business-owning designers need to charge more because they need to pay income taxes on that income. They also need to cover business costs like electricity/equipment costs, paper, ink, insurance, etc. Freelance designers usually charge between $40 and $140 per hour, depending on experience, and quality of work. It also depends on location, type of work, type of client, and convenience of the project.

A typical calculation for a freelancer with 3-4 years of experience,

working from home might include:

+$40,000 annual operating costs (rent/equipment/utils/travel/insurance)

=$90,000 business costs

/1,750 (BILLABLE annual hours {36hrs/week x 49 weeks/yr})

=$51.43/hr break-even rate

+50% profit for growth

=$92.57/hr

$92.57/hr charge for clients

A graphic arts and design degree would be an apt choice for budding individuals or for those aspiring to be graphic artists. A degree in graphic arts puts together an artist's creativity with the most advanced designing technologies and tools to get the best out of a potential artist. A good graphic arts degree ensures a bright career and an edge over other designers. This is the best way to grow and survive in this emerging field.

I have been teaching graphics design for almost 5 years now, and i am practicing graphic artist for almost 21 years. Graphic Design is for me is one the most aggressive word that used by people define a piece work either made by computer or in different medium. But remember graphic design works are made by a graphic designer who able to define elements and building blocks of design who make this a basis of their works. So in order for somebody define their work as a graphic design they should attest themselves that their works are graphically correct. and in order to do this you should learn the techniques and how to come up with a graphically correct design. Learning balance and contrast and so on....which is i believe that being a graphic designer is more than enough for someone to learn all kinds of media in easiest way...

A preliminary drawing may be referred to as a sketch or a cartoon. (Cartoon does NOT refer only to animation.) In Spanish, it's a "boceto".

In Quark or Indesign(and other desktop pub. software), a Master Page(s) is a page(s) to base the rest on. If you were designing a book, for example, and the pages had the same general layout, you would create a master page. It saves a lot of time compared to creating a new blank page.

The Society of Animal Welfare Administrators 1997 Survey reported the salary range for Chief Humane Investigators at $15,000-$60,000, with an average of $32,000, and $11,400-$34,382 for animal control officers, with an average of $24,000. The National Animal Control Associations 2000 salary survey of animal control officers reported a starting yearly range from $13,236 - $44,149.

Reading graphic materials is reading drawings, diagrams, and symbols other than words.

Graphic design includes logos and print design. Graphic Design includes anything in the world that you see that has been created and printed (or displayed as part of a layout). This can be ads, magazines, newspaper layouts, newspaper ads, billboards, logos, brochures, books, decals you find on toys, CD labels & booklets, movie posters, and so much more. It encompasses all things in the print world. And it's not just the layout that is created by graphic designers. We also create, well, "graphics," such as those photos you see in magazines - a graphic designer had most likely altered it after the photographer made the shot.

Web design overlaps graphic design in the graphics and overall appearance (layout) and flow of the site/pages, but web design also includes all the technical aspects of creating a website, such as the coding past basic layout.

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. Most web pages use this format because it's supported by all web browsers, can display up to 256 colors, and can include transparent backgrounds. GIFS are appropriate for image files with little color variation, and for images that will only be viewed on screen.

Photographs saved as GIFs may appear grainy. Single color images saved as JPEGs may appear fuzzy. When you save a graphic image, consider what type of file it is. Remember, GIFs work best with images having few colors or color variations. JPEGs work best with photographs or images to be printed.
